Ive been told that I cant fit an ox hydraulic winch to my genuine nissan bullbar due to airbags. Apparently you are not allowed to modify the bull bar in any way.
The only reason a mod is needed is for a small gearbox lever on one end of the winch which apparently hits the bar when operatng it.
Has anyone been able to get around this problem and fit one? If so please tell me how.

Ask Nissan for the engineering drawings and specification of the bar. It should not at all be difficult to overcome a small issue like that.

yes it may help. What i need to find out is the distance from the right hand mounting bolt hole to the outside edge of the of the winch where the lever is to see if it will fit into my bar.
If you or any other readers can help out it would be appreciated.

Darrin, I suggest you sell the original bar and purchase the correct air-bag/ winch compatible bar. After the change over you should not be out of pocket by any more than $400, a small price to pay when you consider insurance problems, certified engineered product and compatible components that nobody can argue, contributed to/caused an accident. Follow?

Darrin,
as I only rewatched 4WD Monthly's South Aus Odyssey trip again last night, I noticed. Pat Callinan, the Editor was driving a GU Nissan Patrol, (petrol I think). It had a TJM bar, (they mentioned the code name of the bar), but pretty sure it was fitted with an OX hydraulic winch. I'd have to log off, go back to my room and watch the tape again to be sure. But I am pretty certain that's what was said on the tape.

Cheers,

Dion.

thanks Dion.
It would seem fitting them to a Gu patrol isnt the problem it is the fact that my air bag compatible steel bullbar needs a mod. But Ive been told by TJM that they cant be modified

Darrin,
You can fit an OX winch to your genuine GU winch bar without modifying the winch bar. Talk to the people at TJM head office, ask for the OX man. You need to purchase the OX Winch with remote solenoid pack. This allows it to be fitted. I have seen it fitted to a friends GU. He bought the OX after seeing mine in use on my GQ.

Thanks tom for that info. Unfortuneately just a few days to late . I bought an Ox Electric since I was told by every TJM shop I spoke with it couldnt be done. It is a shame that they dont know their own product well to know it can be done .
