Hey Everyone

I have a 80series turbo diesel auto, when at idle in drive or park with brake on or off it develops a shake or it starts hunting. it goes away once i increase rev's or start to accelerate.
Any idea's i've talked to that many people about it, i hope someone has had the same problem and knows how fix? I originally thought injector pump but apparently not because its not leaking, maybe injectors? engine and gearbox mounts are all ok.

Appriciate any responses.

Cheers

pull the ECU fuse out and pop the bonnet. Check the air hose between air box and engine for any splits or leaks. make sure all hoses are on the air box. Go replace the fuse and fire the engine up and see if it still does it.

Hi Ben
Did you mean get a new ECU fuse? or just take it out and then after a little bit put it back in before i start it?
Is the ECU fuse is to buy if i need a new one?

Hi there,

I would look at the idle RPM as well after checking for an air leak as others have suggested.

For a 1HD-T Auto - 800 RPM

For a 1HD-FT Auto - 750 - 850 RPM (multivalve engine)

As well, check idle up speeds for power steering and air conditioning if you have them as these items are often neglected on these engines.

Cheers,

Seanny

Hi All

Checked the hose and looks to be in pretty good condition.
The other thing with this problem is that it dosent seem to affect the idle speed, it still remains constant at close to 800rpm even when the engine starts to hunt/shake or similar.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

My parents have a similar issue with the Mazda 3 that they bought mid last year. They've had it back at the dealer a few times with no solution. It just started happenning one day after they'd had it for a few months. It doesn't seem to affect the power or drive of the car and it only seems to do it while it's in park. They thought initially that it was the engine mounts, maybe you could check that, but they turned out to be fine. I'll let you know if they ever work it out.

Hi there,

Could you supply the following: What year and model, how many Km, factory turbo or after market, multivalve or not, last fuel filter change or service and the like.

I will cross post to a Cruiser site for you.

1991 Factory turbo diesel, non multi valve, auto, 148,000kms, last service about 8000kms ago, dont think fuel filter was done though.

Would a blocked fuel filter be a problem only at idle though?

Thanks Guys
