Here is an article from this months 4wd monthly, this bloke needs a dead set kick in the arse and I'm not talking about the bloke with the 100 series sorry a bit long but here it is !!!!!!!! RAIDED
This is a copy of a letter of complaint I sent to the RTA about an incident that happened to me the other day.
I was out at work and got a call from my head office that some RTA agents' were at my office looking for me. I called them back a few hours later, and they told me they wanted to inspect my vehicle (4WD), as a source said it was concerned about its height.
On that day I faxed the engineering certificate/receipts to the RTA agent, which should have been on the RTA computers the week I got the certificate, as I can swear that it was handed in.
The agent still wanted to inspect the vehicle, so I told him I was very busy that week and to see if it could happen towards the end of the week.
A few days later, I'm in a meeting mid-morning and get a call from the agent again, who left a message to, call him back. In the meeting I sent him a text message back that I was going away over the weekend to western NSW and to maybe find an RTA inspector out west or reschedule. I got no response.
A few hours later, I got a call from my office saying the inspector has turned up at my office again looking for me. Gee, they don't go after major criminals or drug traffickers with such persistence. Perhaps RTA officers should join the police force!
So I immediately called him. He then starts to tell me abruptly that if I don't meet him soon that my car will be made unregistered and I won't be able to drive it.
If he would have called on both occasions to find out where I was prior to trying to do a raid, maybe that would have been morevehicles and several motorcycles, and have to say that the BMW has worse blind spots than my modified 4WD.
It comes down to the fact that it's the driver's fault, not the vehicle, and irresponsible parents who do not keep an eye on their children!
The inspectors came out to my home to inspect the vehicle. There was no question as to the height or stability of the vehicle, but they defected my car for not having long enough mudflaps!
Then they went at the small tow hooks/eyelets on the bullbar (which are under and recessed into the bar) and defected me on this as well as a protrusion. I have spoken to ARB and several 4WD workshops, and they can't believe it! There are thousands of bars Like mine out there.
And all this is from that person that runs the Pedestrian Council (as the inspector told me), and I assumed so too, as I received an email from him a while back telling me that my vehicle should be banned.
He came across the photo of my car on a wildlife rescue website, wrote the licence plate down and called his contact at the RTA! This is a shocking invasion of privacy.
What is going on with this treatment! Obviously there is not enough work going around for RTA inspectors, or they have the wrong priorities...

Mate, I would deem that harrassment and an invasion of privacy by Harold baby. But I'll bet the TV current affairs programs wouldn't have a bar of it.
Get onto your local member and the Premiers office. Kick up a stink until someone notices you.

It is the way of any group with extreme views on anything, they work with anyone they can to slowly put on the screws making life harder and harder, animal rights people are just the same.

I would not believe a word of it. After all it is published in 4WD Monthly

Most likely something that the Editor dreamt up.

That's a bit unfair Willem...Pat might be a lot of things but I cannot believe that he would deliberately jeopodise his livelihood and the existence of the magazine for knowingly publishing a lie. I know you don't lkie the magazine but hey they have a circulation that outstrips everyother like mag and they do tend to cater for most tastes - your's notwithstanding.

Having worked for some time in the publishing industry I can assure you that there are many bogus ' Letters to the Editor ' written up by editorial staff.

The whole magazine/newspaper industry is a lie.

Thank You Willem,
Magazines, TV, Banks, Phone Companies, Car Companies et all have absolutely nothing to do with you and me or informaion or savings or communications or transport for that matter.
Their god is the share price. Anything that raises it is fair game.
4WD Monthly is one of the ACA's of the magazine world, whatever sells is the go.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmm I see 'The Reds under the bed' conspiracy theorists are still alive and well. Geoff/Willem those are grose generalisations and you guys both know that. Sure there are bad eggs in any business (or not in business for that matter) but don't assume or make such outlandish accusations without have the facts to support your claims. For the record - I'm a retired military officer so have no barrow to push for any of the aforementioned 'scoundrels'.

No "Reds under the Bed" here Patrol22, gee I haven't heard that in years.
Just plenty of observation of what motivates CEO's and Senior Management.
One of the most honest statements I've ever heard came out of the mouth of the CEO of General Motors, he said to a group of analysts "GM is not in the business of motor vehicles. GM is in the business of finance. Motor vehicles are just a means of getting people into finance"

Happy Travels,
Geoff.

Patrol22

I make statements I can substantiate about the the way media works as I have spoent some time working in that industry.

What I posted originally in this thread is not an accusation or an assumption of a fact but a proposition to what might have transpired.

Its my opinion.

Kiss me goodnight Sergeant Major!! LOL

Look I know that we (being the 4X4 brigade) need to wear the white hats and be seen as being the good guys on the road and basically be careful not to do anything that will be detrimental to our image as a collective group, but doesn't hearing stuff like this just make you want to get some payback? I mean I'd love to just follow the bloke (scrubby) around for a week and ping him for every bloody thing he does wrong. And I mean EVERYthing! I know, I know, two wrongs don't make a right yadda yadda but I'm just saying doesn't it make you feel like doing something??

Time for a cuppa me thinks!

Cheers, Scoey.

Read the same article from 4wd monthly, i was shoked. However it led me to think 4wdrivers like ourselves need to organise 4wd clubs to form a united 4wd media club. We need a national response to this idiot at the pedestrian council, an organised professionaly run club that represents 4wd clubs all over australia, someone that the media can talk too, an organisation that can run media campaigns about the bennefits of 4wd's but also the misunderstandings presented by certain sections of the public. The only way this tosser at the pedestrian council will be put back in his place is if we fight fire with fire but do it professionaly and legally. Think of the resoources we have forums such as this one, 4wd magazines, newspapers and the tv. Club presidents need to take the challenge remember united we stand divided we fall. By the way we need to attack the problem not the person, keep politics out of the equation and sell to the public the good points about 4wd's. Someone out there must have the ability to organise this.

Yeah I agree Turbo, but do you think that in this situation that maybe the 'person' IS the 'problem'?? The media will always feed off any contravercial drivel that they're fed, but in this case all of the rot seems to be coming from one person. I could very well be wrong but it's just a thought?

Your right, it is the person but it shows how much one individual can do if given the oppurtunity, imagine one person vs a united 4wd club. A PERSON IN 4WD MONTHLY SAID "if you hear the one thing over and over the public will start to believe it" Therefore we need a counter argument. This guy has no organised opposition at the moment and he needs it to keep him hinest.

Yeah good point! I guess the trouble is finding someone who's got the time and drive to front it all. As for me, the spirirt is willing but the flesh is weak. I guess that's the way it is with most people too. We'll all sit around until someone goes too far and bans fourby's on the road or something similarly stupid and then we'll all crack up - too little too late! I lack the drive to head up such an opposition but I'd support the cause as much as possible.

Lol.... i still can't believe this guy is for real (Harold).

I'm prepared to have a little fun with this guy, if anyone is interested. I have the need to travel near his place from time to time.

If anyone out there would like a photo of their 4WD out the front of his house, I'll take a few happy snaps one afternoon, and superimpose your 4WD image onto the pic. Actually, if you can get some action shots, we may be able to do something where one wheel is on his bonnet, or something.

I'll only do a few, but it'll give me a bit of a chuckle, and it would probably make a good members rig pic. I might even chuck in a couple of bikini clad girls if I can. No promises on quality or anything.........

I'll try and get out there in the next few days.....

My email address is boy_chump@yahoo.com.au.

Cheers,

Chump

Great idea guys. I'm sure it'll do the 4WD community enormous good to have you go around and intimidate someone for his ideas. Make sure you have a few tinnies before you go so you can make a good job of it.

How dare he suggest that 4WDers are dumb yobbos.

This sounds a bit like a media beat-up. There's one hell of a lot of hearsay.

Re Harold - as far as I am aware he IS the Pedestrian Council. I vaguely recollect that when last checked out, there were no other listed members.

But there are extremists on both sides of this one!

I note Harold had his usual slot on channel 9 ACA last night (maybe the night before) and this time he is after the truckies. I hope he finds them because I think they have even less tolerance than the 4X4 brigade.

Kind regards

Leaving specific magazines aside - I can confirm Willem's statement that it is far from unknown for editorial staff to write their own Letters to the Editor.

A girl I knew at one time spent a very happy two years writing virtually EVERY 'letter' and reply for one of the early semi-porn magazines . She did this whilst completing her MA Hons in English literature. Not sure about the sexual validity but the syntax was perfect!

She subsequently ran one of Australia's best known magazines.
