Open Suggestion to EO Management

When a new trip/gathering is posted it is locked and very quickly works its way down the list. If you sort threads by post ID it will disappear down the list in a day or so. If you sort by response time it may vanish from the front page in a few hours.

Thus, these gatherings (and they are usually great) fade into obscurity. The participants may not be what they potentially could be.

What is the possibility of making it automatically "regenerate" itself everyday? My computer skills rank somewhere along with my singing ability; so I'm not sure if I'm talking out of my armpits with this idea.

Anyway, just a suggestion.

Jim.

Please check who can oficially use the skull and crossbones as a symbol of their identity. I have reson to doubt your authenticity, although we would all like to think we have a little skull duggery an us!

Yes, we all know that Greg but how often does anyone look there?

A post about gatherings alerts us all to a NEW ONE.

My thread was simply about getting maximum exposure for new trips to help get maximum exposure and maximum turnout.

Cheers,

Jim.

Sorry Jimbo, understand completely - was just pointing out to those that don’t know, and are interested in this sort of thing, where to look. I for one dont look round the entire website that often. Maybe should have worded my post differently.
Cheers

Bluddy hell Jimbo,
see, you can come up with a 'normal' post sometimes, and a damn good idea to boot!

Pezza,

I'm a Multi Talented Man LOL.

Check out the archives, I might amaze you with my Solar expertise LOL.

I do like a bit of fun now and then. The owners of this site get a bit annoyed with me from time to time and that is their right. Accordingly, I pull my head in and try not to be a pain.

On the whole they keep a reasonable balance and allow a bit of latitude on most topics. I'm not sure they appreciate my wit at times, but they've yet to ban me. All credit to them.

Cheers,

Jim.

Jimbo - I notice that some forums eg Gocaching Aus
have "stickys" - posts that stay at the top irrespective of listing date and responses - maybe this is a solution (or part thereof)?
Cheers

Guys, just want to highlight the fact that the 'events' tab at the top will be used for all events/trip gatherings - in a calendar type format (i think), so this may solve any problems. The sticky post is a good idea tho...

I have only just found the trip gatherings thing and found out about 6 trips or so.
Some have been and gone.
When they get locked they disappear to quick.

All the best

Jimbo,

30 days before the event it is shown in a sort of sticky thread at the end of the forum page list - where the birthdays are. They are also in the latest news scroller on the LHS menu from the day they are recorded. I can extent the forum list to have all trips maybe 120 days or something a bit longer - I did not want the list to get too long on the forum index but let me make it 120 days and see what happens.

Well there you go. I've never noticed the 'Trips and Gatherings' or' Members Birthday' bit at the bottom of the forum page. Been staring me in the face for ages.
Perhaps the only 'sticky' required is an idiots guide, LOL.
I thought I had clicked on checked out every tab on the site.
I suspect I've missed a few more now!!!

Adjusted to 120 days in the forum index page link to T&G. What do you think of this?

Dave,

Great improvement.

No criticism, but I'm not sure everyone looks there. I had to look to find it as I wasn't familiar with it.

I personally would suggest a 120 day "sticky" at the top of the Forum first page (regardless of post id or response time selection) so that they are always available to everyone. Not sure if this is; possible, practical or something that you reckon is useful.

Your forum, your call.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

Cheers,

Jim.
