Last night during the storm some bastard stole my BRIGHT RED HOBIE QUEST FISHING KAYAK.
This is one of only 5 Red Quest models in QLD.
Any help would be appreciated.

Paul,

Load it up as your Rig Pic 1 for the time being. That will put it in everyone's face on each of your posts.

That one has been debunked as a photoshop fake. I understand that the movie of the orca crashing the kayak though is real!

Bugger - looks like they are both fakes.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/kayak.asp - the Orca movie is part of a Korean Powerade commercial!

The shark/kayak photo was debunked on a scuba forum by some digital photographers - it's quite clear when you zoom in on areas like the tail that there's been image manipulation. Can't find an "official" debunk.

You can also tell by teh perspective - the kayak was photograped from about 30 degrees above the horizon and the shark more like 45 degrees.

Scubaroo,

Hmm - bit of pixelation around tail and dorsal fin as you say, some sort of manipulation seems probable.

Mike - the perspective difference could be because the shark is moving in a different plane (3d possible) to the kayak(only 2d) ?

After a bit of Googling, I found this

picture discussion

seems like the consensus is that the shark pic is real!

"On the other hand, what is called in that area a Grey Nurse Shark (Sand Tiger to Americans) does tend to have that general shape, and they are well known for attacking humans."

- at this stage I had to stop reading, my eyes were watering so much from laughing. I dived near a school of Grey Nurse and then they swam away a metre above me. Grey Nurse are an endangered species - one reason is that the number of divers around their breeding grounds e.g. Wedding Cake Island off Coogee are disturbing their breeding.

Yeh, I know what you mean - there's some silly stuff there, (as in all forums), but after a bit of "sorting the wheat from the chaff", still seems that the conclusion is that the pic is real.

Found another reference that the pic was originally posted in African Geographic magazine.

We use to surf of Wedding cake on coolites and the local divers from Prodive and the like would all tell us we were made because the caves down the side face of the island were full of sharks.
A few times we had to jump onto the island because we had company and we always cut out feet to shreds on the banicles.
Many a time the SLSA rubber duck had to make a dash out to save our sorry hides..
Thems were the days!!
