No not a Patrol, my sons 1st car a Skyline. Was looking at it yesterday and parking lights came on. No keys in ignition and I was not touching the car. When driving the parking lights come on and off by them selves, but when switched on stay on as they should. Dash instruments work intermittantly. Auto elec looked at it but seemed to know less than me. What could cause this? It had an alarm which I took off as it didnt work. Any ideas team?

just to add to what chips suggested how does the switch feel in its operation ? does it feel normal ?

if it feels loose or it does'nt click smoothly it may have had a small spring had a let go or lost tension etc

It sounds like the combination switch.
Quite common on older cars. The contacts get dirty and they bugger up inside.
Check with wreckers as some are able to be pulled apart and some aren't. Wreckers usually sell them exchange if they are repairable.

Sorry, I mist the dash problem. It sounds like an earth problem to me, if they all work and then all stop then all work its a earth problem. try running new earth to back of dash.
