Hi folks. Just a quick question for you. We will be on holiday in July and intend to drive from Brisbane to Port Douglas stopping no the way ( 3 weeks ) and would like to go to Fraser Island to stay at one of the resorts for a couple of nights, is this possible with a large car, I realise that we would not be able to drive the tracks.
Thanks for your help
Ray

Ray,
Best idea would be to store your car in Hervey Bay and catch the Quick Cat to Kingfisher Bay. From there they have bus trips etc for you to see the Island.
Google for Kingfisher Bay.

A large car? You mean like a falcon (not 4wd). Then the answer is NO.

Well, actually you could drive it on the Kingfisher bay jetty and then around the resort. (a few hundrad metres at best.) You might as well just take the ferry to kingfisher and forget the car, and hire a small 4wd on the island.

Cheers

The Japenese owned Kingfisher Bay is a great place. Make sure you go there. They are buying up everything on the island and when they achieve this they will up all the prices. When you stay there they know you have to eat there and thus this is reflected in the restaurant prices. All but one barge transfer is now controlled by Kingfisher. About 85% of all tours are now Kingfisher. Soon this Japanese Giant will squeeze all the other players out of the market.

While you are on Fraser you may like to consider these Australian family owned resorts

Sid Melcham (spel?) sold his resort and barges to the Japenese owned Kingfisher Bay a few years ago.
