I have been listening to a promotion for Jenolan Caves house. Does anyone know if "things" have been fixed up or is it still the same run down, poor food & no service place at an exhorbitant cost?
Great location, good activities but unless major work has been done then the Hydro Majestic will do me for Easter.....

Still the same 6 months ago will not be going again anytime soon, unless as you said it gets or has had a major improvement in the last 6 months. Go the Majestic beautiful. Regards Steve M

The place is a joke. It's so poorly run that it's embarassing to take overseas visitors to. It's price is just plain silly.

It's a real pity. It has the potential to be the most desirable hotel in the country - bar none.

One word - Useless.

I've walked the six-foot track finishing at Caves House a three times over the past two months.

Whilst I haven't stayed overnight, it looks rundown, the food is plainly average by any standard and the service is not what you would expect from a major tourist attraction. Prices are an insult for what you get............

LOL!! Jenny and I always have a beer each at Caves House after coming off the Six Foot Track and getting onto the bus back to Katoomba. A great walk indeed.

Jenolan caves is a bloody rip-off!! Wee Jasper Caves (also known as Carey's caves) are smaller and there are 2 different tours..we did the "Christmas tree" tour yet have more of those stalicnite things and all that cave stuff (speeling very bad...!!) They are also newer - been operating since 1960's.......we went 2 weeks ago and had the tour guide (Geoff) all to our selves for 2 hrs and it only cost $11 adult...camped at Swinging Bridge reserve and were the only ones there!!!

I will never go to these over - rated big top notch caves again after going to Wee jasper......

Don't expect the caves reserve to get any better....word has it from one of the local blokes working there when we were visiting 1 month ago was that National Parks (whatever you call them in NSW) are taking over the reserve. All the railings internally and externally are/have been replaced with new SS stuff (what a job!!). The campground is getting closed down also!! No more camping nearby. A lot of money is being spent on the main access road to the caves with constant delays, though this is probably unrelated.

Blokes were also unhappy about charging for parking in busy times!! Lucky for us it was quite on a weekday. I couldnt believe they would have the nerve to charge for parking as we would have arrived down there with no warning of these fees and would have been pi$$ed. Doesnt the exhorbant fees cover this parking normally. They would be better off offering free bus trips there instead....

Sounds like some dissatisfaction in the ranks.....

I saw a ranger book someone outside the caves ticket office a couple of weeks ago. He was only there about 5 minutes, admittedly a no-parking area......but crikey!

Thanks for asking the question Mr Fawlty and everyone else for replying. I was considering re-visiting the caves after an absence of over 30 years. Think I'll save myself the drive (and aggravation) till someone can report back with a more positive review.
