There are a few places that hire motor homes, google motor homes.

7 days will not get you very far up to Cape York. From Cairns back to Cairns I would allow 3 weeks minimum

I agree that 7 days is too tight for the cape.

Two long days from cairns will get you to the cape via the bypass roads. Then you would have 5 days to get back and if you don't travel the telegraph roads you miss the good bits.

If 7 days is the limit, you would have to come back down the bypass roads and duck back to some of the falls etc as you cross the telegraph track.

It would be a shame to travel that far and not have time to see it. Even at the cape there is Somerset area, the airfield wrecks, Mouth of the Jardine, etc as well as the actual cape.

Weipa and Iron Range are off to the side of the main cape track but well worth a look

Have seen the usual BRITS troopies up there.

What is possible is to hire from Weipa. Fly to Weipa and then 7days would give you a bit more time. Trade off of time against air travel to Weipa I guess.
