Was looking at another site and came across this...............scary stuff. Imagine just driving along and the next minute in darkness down a mine shaft.

It's something to keep in mind.

Not long after moving to Broken Hill I was out having a look around when I noticed waht looked like the to of a very old ladder sticking up out of the ground. SO I pulled on the handbreak and opened the door to go and have a closer look.

Careful where you put your feet Duncs there is a big hole right beside the car.

The hole was about 600mm diam and of undetermined depth. I could not see the bottom. Probably wouldn't swallow a car but it would be interesting to fall into, with or without the car.

I did check out the ladder and it looked to be an old hand dug mineshaft. It was a bit bigger than the one next to the car but had a bush growing out of the rim and the old ladder to mark it's position so was not a big a worry. The one I was parked next to looked very similar but without the ladder. It was not marked in any way, no discolouring of the rock no fence nothing. I suspect it was a vent shaft for the mine under the ladder, which I was not game to decend.

Apparently there are quite a few of these things in the area.

Just some 'woos yanks'

If it happened here, any OZ driver would have just selected reverse and backed it out.

None of this high tech crane c h i t needed.

Just a bunch of girls.
