which uhf ?

I had the same questions whenI was buying an in vehicle UHF. I called Prestige Communications in Perth who were extremely helpful in explaining the pros and cons of GME v's Uniden. In the end I bought a TX3200 as I had the space in the dash and didn't need a remote head. I found the staff at Prestige to be extremely helpful and geninely interested in ensuring that I got a radio suited to my needs.

In summary the Uniden is favoured by Prestige as it has some additional features over the GME. (I bought the GME as it was on special) As for the combination UHF/CB - do you really need this - does anyone still use AM???

The service, pricing and delivery terms are excellent. In addition they offer good 4wd packages with aerials and cables thrown in.

If you have no need for selcall or recieve channels and don't really need the remote head thing, take a good look at the GM TX3200, you'll save nearly $100.

However out of the 2 options listed i would (and have) go for the GME, been there and done that with unidens.

I had the same probs, and eventually went the Uniden and it's tops.
They're basically 50/50... so I went with what I knew (I use the uniden handhelds at work) and she's never let me down...

mate, we got the tx 3400 remote head in the patrol. works a treat, and when combined with a TRUE 6db ariel has a good range. the ability to program those scanner channels is a real bonus as well.
the body of ours sits out of the way under the dash, with the remote head screwed into a lower lip of the dash in front of the gearstick. its out of the way yet very easy to reach at the same time.
however, if you have the space, try the tx 4400. its a full size unit, with all of the features, including 20 programable channels.(got one in the truck). hooked up to a 6 or 9db ariel, i get really good coverage, both metro and country.
tried uniden on a number of occasions and for me they just didnt do the job i needed them to do.
thats my 2.5cents anyway.
at the end of the day it comes down to your choice, as it's your money.

I also have the 3400 remote head unit.. threw a Uniden in the bin... talk about crap!

Uniden make good 27 meg units... I have a PC122xl I think it is..
GME, Phillips etc make good UHF units..

The combo unit, you can only listen or talk to 27meg OR UHF.. whats the point? Also if one dies eg 27meg, you have to replace both anyway...

Thanks for the info, i am leaning towards the GME TX3400 as i am currently running one in one of my trucks and so far so good it has not faultered where as the uniden sundowners that i have run before were nothing but trouble, i just thought that uniden might have got there act together by now.

Personally, we have the UH-013, love it, but they are both great units.

Keep in mind thatGME are Australian made. I went for their top of the range model - the TX 4400. I also have a little Uniden $99 hand held for vehicle to vehicle or pedestrian to vehicle use. The TX 4400 also has 20 user programmable extra channels (don't know if 10 more than the cheaper model is relevant or not).
