Just wondering what the road is like from Kulgera - Finke - Mt Dare -Purnie Bore . Is it feasible to get from Kulgera to Purnie bore in a day or would that be pushing it?

Ian,

It really depends how much rain there has been on the track. We were stuck for days at Dalhousie Springs last year until the roads were opened and then had a real fun day through Mt Dare to Kulgera via Finke. Roads were literally like rivers. We camped about 30km north of Kulgera that night. If the roads are OK then it's an easy run.

Peter, if it's raining I don't plan on being on that road at all! I thought it wasn't supposed to rain out there.

Ian

Neither did we! We arrived at Dalhousie around 4pm and the rain started overnight and didn't stop for 2 days. Lots of very wet campers and we put the 4wds to a real test getting through. Only one winch episode.

Send me your email and I'll send a couple of pics - the picture upload isn't working now.

I have also done the road when dry and it literally wasn't recognisable.

Yes it would be an easy drive from Kulgera to Purnie Bore in a day but you would want to start early as you would want to visit the Lambert Centre along the way and also have a relax at Dalhousie Springs.

You will have to be the unluckiest person to strike rain out there. But then again....lol
