We are off to Fraser in August with 3 Kids all under 5. We are just wondering where people think the best camp ground would be. We have a large camper trailer and would like a camp ground with showers and to be fenced.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Gday Matt

I was there in Dec and we camped on the east coast at Waddy Point
We camped right on the beach there but behind the beach camping was fenced camping with hot showers and toilets. If I have little kids that will be the spot for us. The tides makes little swimming pools on the beach so it's nice to have a swim in there and it's not deep at all.

Make sure you book before you leave and you have your information pack with you. They have new rules

I agree with Waddy. I was there last Nov. It was great - not many in the camp ground at all. Central Station looked pretty good also but I think the kids would prefer the beach;-)

Word of warning. Most of the camp grounds have erected those stupid bloody bollards to keep cars out of the camping area and on the roads. Means you can't actually get your camper into a camping spot. Only any good for tents.

When I go I camp on the beach up near Ocean Lake.

Glenno,

Could you please email me any that you have of campgrounds and beach approaches as I have only covered the area north from Hook Point to about in line with Lake Wabby and over to Lake McKenzie. Have done most of the tracks in this section but next trip I want to go a bit further North. We have camped mainly at Central Station campground (old one and the new one).

Much appreciated.

Email me at ryjoe@ozemail.com.au

Thanks

From memory lake Boomanjin has a fenced area for camping.
Not sure if you can get the camping trailer in though.
Bit of a walk down the hill to the lake too.

Something different fore the kids than the beach.

Have a look if you get a wet day or feel like a drive.

Track in is not too bad.

2001 we camped at Awinya creek on the western side of the island had the whole place to our selves .You can only get in on low tide though, good fishing and whale watching in season but you have to take everything in with you as there is no fresh water for drinking only for the shower
