Has anybody converted stanard spotlights to HID lights, Rally 4000 or any of the lightforce type? how did they go? was it worth while? i have a pair of 240 blitz lightforce and i am looking at doing the conversion now, but not 100% sure!! any feedback would be great.

What's wrong with Lightforce,i got two 170s and i reackon theyre the ants pants, I gave measured the distance to a reflected sign on the Barkly Hwy and got 3.1klm, now i don't need to see cows etc at 3.2 Ks but if one is on the road at 400 meters I will se it in time. but if a cow or roo darts out from the scrub right at you then no matter how good the lights are is not going to help, in fact the lights won't be any good at all after the roo has busted them.
here is a little helpful hint from an outbacker, sub-consciously keep an eye on the reflectors 5/600 m in front, if one goes out and comes on again be ready, someting has walked past it

Doug, have to agree with you there. But at times, anything that moves on the Barkly is probably a tourist ! :))

My memory of the Barkley is much the same as Footie's - practically devoid of any life execept tourists. A good drive though.

All the roadside stops were chokkers, had to drive to the Isa...all full...drove on ...stopped in a motel at Cloncurry...zonked out. Never seen so many people travelling a road in all my life :))

A mod called Brightlights in Victoria sells the H1 kit for $395 plus GST

http://www.brightlightautoparts.com/index.html
Why not convert your H4's to HID's first @ $511 for the complete kit
It's better to buy from oz then overseas

Just don't forget they are illegal in Vic when fitted as low beam lighting, unless the vehicle has self levelling lights.

ACDC, it's on the vic roads website... All new cars coming out with HID's also have self levelling headlights from factory. I'll do the search later tomorrow when I get home and find the appropriate article.

On the subject of light force spotties. I have now seen two vehicles with little black stumpy pieces of plastic with a globe on the end where the lightforce lights had been but aint no longer!!!

A guy I know through work was doing some HID inserts for Lightforce and Rally 4000's up . He is in Darwin and reccons that they are heaps brighter than standard and I think he was saying that he could do up a set for about $500.

Hello there,
I am the Darwin person mentioned in this post who has performed the 240 Blitz conversion. I have had the required components machined up for the blitz's and can supply these along with quality HID componentry(same manufacturer who makes the Hella components). I have both rally 4000"s and 240 blitz's converted and fitted to my vehicle. They are well worth converting as the light is much brighter and whiter. They really make the standard globes look yellow, and have much better penetration(spread beams will give more distance than original halogen pencil beams). I can be contacted on 0407797644 if anyone requires further info.
