During my internet travels searching for hand winches I came across the following:

http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=1669

Don't blame me if it eats your grandmother!

If anyone should buy one please let us know how it performs.

Mike,

Check the Trader section here. There's a few winches up for sale at the moment.

Thanks Al - never thought of that - dhhhhhheeeerr! :)

I've pretty much decided on the Big Haul - good reports on here, especially from Wayne - who knows a bit about vehicle recovery - spare parts are available and itemised in a data sheet, each unit has an individual serial number for traceability and the price is about $400. None in the trader section but if anyone wants to sell a near new condition 1600kg one please let me know.

No problem Mike. I don't have to make a decision either way for a while yet.

So, sometime in the future, I'll post a series of questions regarding portable vs electric winches, what brands etc etc etc, get told to "Do a search" and the cycle will start all over again LOLOLOL

Mike I have a big Haul and agree with your choice, they are great and I have had no trouble with mine, Member Redback tho had trouble with his, but when he read the manual (or someone showed hime) it was the user not the unit.

Go for it

I notice there is NO brand name in the Add and has only 30 day warranty.Probably made in China and I hate wasting my dollars on crap made in China, been there, done that ,................no more, I will go without if I can't get an item made in Oz USA UK Europe and yes NZ

Aahhh Doug, if it was only that easy. Oz, USA, UK, Europe and NZ all produce their own share of crap as well. Buying solely based on where it was made and/or because it has a higher price tag is no guarantee of quality.

That should get a rise from all the rabid 'you only get what you paid for' zealots LOLOLOL

Our thoughts are with you Bonz.

Enjoy Fiji - I haven't been there let us know what it's like. I assume you are 4WDing there? Have you checked the snorkle? :)

Thanx Mike, Fiji was indeed a wonderful experience, a great place and somewhere I would recommend everyone to go.

We went to Plantation Island Resort, on the Isle of Malolo Lai Lai. Great for families and kids and parents alike and had a great time. Snorkelling, swimming canoes etc etc Para flying etc sleeping it was a great time. I am sure Kate and Daryl would be wanting to come too :)

Ask for Va and Bill and Sir Horace of the Toast if you do go there.

Anybody in the Melborne area...

A 'cheapo' tool shop on the corner of Spencer and Dudley Sts.

He sells cheapo Chinese tools...and I gotta say I can't feel any quality difference from these, to the 'real deal'.....as the 'real deal' toys are usually made in China!!

12000lb for about $550??(or thereabouts)..don't quote me! I was looking at the $250 Jack Hammer and saw the winch from the corner of my eye...and now I can't rememberthe exact price!
And I can't remember the name of the shop (I don't work for them!)

I reckon it's the chinese, doing business the only way they know how!
(copy and save)

hypothetical:
Warn seeks to lower it's manufacturing costs.
They look to the Chinese to manufacture winches under license, where Warn then sells them as a 'Warn Winch', and Warn agrees to let the Chinese manufacture their own ChinShen brand winches, for which Warn gets $10/unit!!

See where I'm coming from?
Eventually eveything is going to be "made in China (or India)"
better get used to it!

After my experience with Chinese tyres...I have more respect for their tools too!

I won't buy from ebay..because I need to feel the 'quality' of the item!

Mike,
FYI...

"Deals direct" and ebay seller "auctionbrokersaustralia" are one and the same seller, and they have a few of these winches listed on ebay as we speak... Might be worth your while watching & see what they sell for.... 1 is currently on about $450 w/- approx. 8 hrs to run...

I have no opinion either way on the winches in question, but I've purchased from this seller on a few separate occasions, and would not hesitate to do so again...
