Hi! You'd think with only 2 months til the start of the Postie Bike Challenge, that my darling husband & his best mate would have worked out how they intend on getting to Birdsville by June 2 with their pre-prepared Postie bikes, crossing the Simpson Desert, carrying all their gear for 2 weeks then returning home to Melb from Alice Springs. Anyone headed in that direction that can fit 2 blokes, 2 postie bikes & a few slabs of VB? It's for a great cause - The Royal Flying Doctors Service.

Not heard anything about that from within Post - but I am in WA. Where's it being organised from? and is it a Post event or just people using old Postie bikes?

I bet all the Simpson trekkers will be really thrilled to be following narrowed tyred postie bikes over the dunes......

Those game riders will soon find out where the term "push bike" came from :-))

G'day Sally,

Wasn't that just done last year by Phil Hodgens, 'across Aus on a postie' , for the Royal Flying Doctors ?

Recentle was given a postie bike (Honda CT110). Got it running again and it's a beauty! Started looking around at websites and there's a whole network of postie bike enthusiasts out there. It's a big event on the postie bike calendar. Good luck.

Hi V8Diesel

Are you thinking about doing something like this yourself?

In the future maybe but not this year Sally. I have some bits and pieces of chromium cobalt going into my hip soon due to some silly activities as a teenager so it wont be a wise move.

The sheer masochism of such an endeavour does appeal to me though.

Sally, the only way the boys can get their Postie bikes to Birsville is via the Birdsville Track. Now, the truck which brings our food and general freight from Adelaide only comes once a fortnight. So I suggest you phone Tom McKay of Track Freight on 0427 694223 or his wife Jo on 0409574707 and organise something with him - it's his truck and he's usually driving. Remember, tho, the slightest drop of rain and the truck can't come so you'll have to allow plenty of time!!
You can email him on: tomjomckay@bigpond.com

Thanks for the information Ruth. Really appreciate it. Hopefully the boys will get their act into gear & organise themselves before 3/6!!!
