Roof consoles - what do they attach to?

My roof console (Hilux Dual Cab) fixes to the rear view mirror mounting holes and the interior light. I wasn't happy with using selftapping screws in the interior light location, so I fitted some 4mm AVK inserts. If my console comes down, the roof is coming down as well!!

Roof Console Installation

Mine in the GU are attached to the central light fitting and the rear view mirror bracket. Once you pull the light out you will see it's more than capable of taking the weight. I do some times bounce up and hit my head though.

Hi bilbo my outback roof console fits to rear vision mirror at front and interior light at rear no strength probs , but mounting uhf in took some imagination ,No head bumps will happen , If i can keep 4 wheels on ground??,.,.

I made my own roof console for my '05 'Lux. It is fixed to the screw holes for the interior dome light at the back, but I had to drill new holes for the front as my rear view mirror is stuck to the windscreen. I made simple aluminium brackets to hold it in place. Some pics of the console here (before radio was installed):

If you are buying an 'outback' roof console it comes with full instructions and clearl piccies of where/how to fit includig all necessary wires etc.. I have just fitted my 05 4.2 GU with one...
