Willie, the market may be up but not that far up that you can afford to compete with the backpackers up there :)
I assume that you are going after big fish with light tackle ? I couldn't hack pulling the line in time and time again with nothing on the end..no trace, hook or sinker. I've yet to enjoy catching a really big fish....I try and stay away from things that are big enough to retaliate :)))
Been to that area quite a few times (not fishing) and never failed to enjoy it.

Footie ,
We don't want to go after marlin , sailfish ,
sharks - just want to catch mackerel , queanfish , trevally etc on 10kg .
How big is a " really big fish " ?
Airlie beach has changed a lot since I was last there - then , we used to call it Airlie Mud Flats .

Willie
We were up that way a couple of weeks ago just prior to Larry.
Check the weather forecast. If its still 20knots plus then outside or on in the passage will be rough.
You may be interested in trying for Barra in Lake Proserpine. We landed four, all 100cm plus in two morning sessions. Tackle
shop in Proserpine can help with charter.
Good luck
