I think I must have a ghost in my Troopie because the damn Coden keeps turning itself on ,seems to do it when it rains more so, It is an older Coden 8525 with tapped Antennae , been out and turned it off 3 times today , If no body has an explanation I might have to put a kill switch between the unit and the power source.

Similar problem this way Doug. Also a Codan 8525, mounted upright at the rear of the centre console. When I have the dog in the back, she presses the ON button on the radio. She hasn't got the hang of the microphone yet- but has a callsign.
Can't help with your dilema but- maybe Footloose has the answer????

My dog's callsign is K9. No- haven't had a auto ON problem- however one feature I can't resolve, when I hold a finger NEAR (not on) the channel indicator, the channel number and usb lamps dim?? Apart from that, very happy with the ole 8525 with the tapped whip. (and in the other car a 7727).

Doug, do you have anything else running full time eg rust inhibitor ?
The 25 is usually bullet proof, but like me is getting old.
Switching on by itself sounds like you may have a cap or transistor around the on circuit in the PA (yes sounds funny but thats where it is) going leaky. Either that or moisture gets into the membrane and away you go.
You have suggested the easiest and cheapest solution, but be aware that it may lead to other faults in time.

Nothing else running at the moment, have not been away since the weekend so the fridge is off as is everthing else, as for the radio ... well it didn't cost much , I swapped an old Garmin GPSII for it so when it expires then i will look at maybe a Barrett, just got me whacked why, just now went out to the car and it was on again so i have taken the antennae lead in off the back to see if that keeps it quiet, MAYBE A HAMMER lol

If I can be allowed the luxuary of simplifying it to blazes (and hope no techs shoot me) the membrane on the front has a switch in it. The switch supplies voltage to a couple of transistors that turn some relays on etc.
Don't want to start a brand war again, as both Codan and Barrett make good gear. Roughly the same price new, Holdens and Fords I guess.
I'm much more familiar with the Codans. I'd go for a 9323/9350 combo with fries. Or if you've won Lotto, the NGT with the easytalk , quite an improvement on receive.
If you must have a Barrett, while the SB250RC's were quite good (there's two sitting behind me), the 550 is about as low as I'd go.
Until then, may the ghost of the radio be kind to you :)))

Footloose

Thanx mate maybe that hammer might get a go yet, One of the reasons i would go for a Barrett is ....Sshhh that they can whem tickled up transmit full power on 27mhz so then I could take the CB out and only have the 2 Radios [HF/UHF] where the Coden will only pump out the legal poweron 27mhz if it has 27 mhz operational so i been told

You dont need an old set to have ghosts.I have an NGT and when we have high humidity if I press the call button the car windscreen wipers turn on but only the first time.
Ive asked it not to do it but it must be related to my wife it takes no notice.
