...people sitting at a table with linen tablecloth in the outback. Perhaps taken on a catered tagalong tour or similar? I seem to remember seeing a pic just like I've described a couple of days ago and now I can't find it. I can't remember if I saw it on here, or even if I have something in my own photo files, or where. Please send me one if you have anything even vaguely similar, or post it here etc. No good pointing me to one you find on someone else's website though, because the reason I want it is to illustrate a new article so it has to have copyright issue attached to it. Please?... anybody?....

Hi Thommo,
When I first read your post I wasn't sure what you were talking about but now Phantom has also offered a pic from the same place. As I have already posted a followup to his reply, I have to admit to not know this place "Sounds of Silence" - sound great though. Perhaps I'd better take a look. You can email to me at michelle at exploroz dot com.

Almost! Thanks for trying, but not quite what I'm after as I'd like to have people sitting at the tables, sipping wine, a spread of food, that kind of thing, and to be definately looking as if they were plonked in the middle of the desert or bush with no mod cons in sight. Bit weird I know, but that's why I need the help!

Sounds like a challenge. If we can't find an existing photo - why not set it up and take a photo. If anyone is at a loss for something to do this weekend - you now have an assignment. LOL

Hi Michelle,
I have close ups of us having dinner at Sounds of Silence at Uluru if they would be any good. If you respond I can get them from old style original prints and scan and email them tomorrow.
Let me know!
Regards,

Ahh Michelle,
The Sounds is one of the most spectacular events that anyone can do in Australia.
They pick you up in a Luxury coach and take you out into the desert on sunset and you are greeted by waiters in full dress suits serving cocktails. You then watch the sunset between Uluru and the Olgas whilst listening to didgeridoo. They then lead you down a path to arrive at the dining area where there are about 100 tables set up for 5 star dining. (and a full kitchen built on a sand dune). They serve traditional Oz food such as kanga, croc buffalo etcetc...fantastic.
They then have telescopes set up to watch the night sky and of of course listen to the 'Sounds of Silence'.
Absolutely the best, not cheap but unforgetable.

Ahh - I see, that's why I didn't know if it, being such cheap scapes, we've always freeloaded it when staying in the Uluru area. I've seen the same amazing view just not done the linen table service thing (nor had the cocktails). Sounds like I better go back (again). Just when you thought you knew it all eh?! tee hee.

Wayne has just sent me a photo (but he did say he nabbed it off the internet so it was just to explain). So Phantom yes I think I'll take you up on your original offer if you wouldn't mind please.

I reckon that if you look at Andrew Dwyer's website you may find such a thing.
I have not confirmed same, but a good lead seeing he's a foodie of note.

Rick, you're right! I found the perfect photo there at Chambers Gorge however the site says the photos are by professionals and are protected by copyright which I uphold and respect to the max. The photographer actually works for Gourmet Traveller - so no wonder its the perfect shot, unfortunately its not worth me buying royalties to use it just to illustrate an article. Oh well... I'll check out some other ideas that I see how flooded in to the post overnight. Thanks very much once again however.

Michelle, this one was taken at the OBC in 2004 with the venerable Norm Needham smiling at the table

This was the table he was sitting at

Ah yes, been there and seen the mud at low water. Never took my patrol boat in there, I was opposed to anchoring in the 'puddle' and being trapped until the next high tide. Not to mention wading through the mud to get ashore.

Now that's pretty cool. I just wish you'd taken a white linen tablecloth with you and a waiter too! ha ha I might still use it though. Thanks :-)
