Hi Peter,
Yes there is -
Grafton and Districts 4WD Club Inc. They have a general meeting the first Thursday night of every month (tonight) at the
South Grafton Ex-Servicemans Club, Warf St,
South Grafton at 7pm (might be 7.30pm).
Or you could contact the secretary :-
Nick Scroop
E-mail Address: nscroop@northnet.com.au
Sorry, Cant find his phone number at the moment.
It's an active club that tries to average two outings per month, camping weekends, Xmas party at end of year, social events, funkana etc. Not all outings are strictly 4wd, there is a trout fishing weekend coming up very soon although some aren't going for the fish - the club believes in having a decent
camp fire and freindly comaradery (hope that is spelt correctly) at night.
Easter time will see a progressive 4wd camping trip over the four days into some new territory for most of us (evey night is a different
camp spot). This will see some of the men (and some women) in their "drinking pants" at night around the
camp fire. I should explain - some time ago on one trip, one member after having his shower one evening put on the most loud, ugly, colourful pants he could get his hands on. His explanation was that they were comfortable, just the thing to relax in and have a beer by the fire.
Well, it started from there, with others trying to outdo each other! Just a bit of fun. When other groups see us at large gatherings like this they sometimes steer clear!!!
The club has done some long distance trips such as
Cape York,
Simpson Desert, CSR,
Vic High Country etc.
Families are more than welcome. About 50% of members have
young children.
Members must have or have regular use of a 4wd with low range capability, registered of course and be licenced. Trips are graded A to E. E being bitumen and A being hardcore (lockers and winching usually needed), Must have recovery points and UHF. Memebers vehicles are varied from the usual Cruisers and Patrols to Jackaroos, Rodeos (row-day-oh), Landrovers, etc. etc. Some standard, some modified - just, some awsome! There's never been any problem of "hardcore berrating standard". Everyone gets along
well. Ages are
young to old.
Membership is $55.00. That covers a bloke and his wife/girlfriend/boyfriend and children or a lady and her husban/boyfriend/girlfriend and children. Political rubbish ah! But anyway, very cheap. The club is affiliated with the Aust Nat 4wd Cuncil, and so is insured, is incorporated as
well.
If you want any more info just yell.
See Ya
Tony
