To who ever reads this,
Hi my names is Daniel, and I have A 1986 hi-lux Dual cab. The engine in it is a bit old and small now ('86, 2 ltr) and it probly time to update. I was just wondering if anyone would know what other engines would fit as I don't want to go through the hassel of engineers reports but would like somthing with a little more torque and higher towing speed. I was hopeing to put in a later hi-lux engine, but don't want efi, or a computer that can fail in the bush. What would people suggest???

Dont get me wrong im not trying to be smart but by the time you finish mucking about mating a different engine to the box and if you stay carby you aren't going to really get much better than what you got, all things considered including cost and headaches you should consider trading up.

At a ute show in Nanango today I checked out this Lux had a Toyato Supra motor in it, six cyclinder twin turbo 290 hp at the rear wheels. Didnt ask what it cost, but he said it liked a lot of fuel when he put pedal to the metal.
Cheers Bruce

you could try a v6 chev with carby, or a lexus quad cam v8 or the ever popular holden 308. you can also change the gearbox to suit if you like because the tansfer case will bolt to anything with the appropriate adaptors....good luck and have fun...
