Hi,

I want to buy a pair of amplified speakers to be run of 12 volt or batteries so I can watch movies with my lap top when travelling. I wouldn't have a clue what to get, only want something cheap as it may not be used. Looked at ebay but there are hundreds, can anyone give me some advice??

Thanks

Battery speakers are almost a thing of the past, 240V are not any good to you, so buy USB powered speakers and you will be happy I am sure. Bit more expensive, but worth it in the long run.

Something like this

Cruiser is spot on here. Batterys are a pain now. I am a great fan of Targus products and they do a nice little USB speaker for laptops. Check out their website at www.targus.com.au

I'll second Phantom on Targus. Their after-sales (and out of warranty) service is second to none.

Plus they make good products, too.

Not associated with Targus, just a very satisfied customer (out of warranty).

Buy an FM retransmitter that plugs into the audio jack of the laptop and then tune in the car stereo to it. May even get surround sound!!

The only cost from about $60.

Have a look here

I got an FM transmitter from ebay for under $10, seems to work fine, takes it power from either the 12v socket or USB. Way way better than speakers and if you dont want to listen to the lappy just change the radio station.
