Yep, Bicarb is great for this type of thing! I give mine a rinse with bicarb after each outing, and have never had a problem with the taste of the water. If it continues maybe give it a rinse with very weak Bleach, but give it a really good rinse out afterwards. - Jo

Having been around caravans a whileI find that this question comes up often and is sometimes not solved by adding bicarb or other solutions.

Some people seem to be more sensitive to water taste. Other point is that somewhere along the trail you will be picking up water that may have an odd taste.

Best approach is to fit a water filter (eg from Bunnings). Some have two filters: in and out.

Greetings

Is your water tank made of food grade plastic? If not this could be the problem.

Regards

Martha Gardner would possibly say"Try a little bleach love..White King" She may also say " White vinegar..but rinse well after either one,or the bleach may turn your red corpusels into whites" End of MG..Warning ! Put the white vinegar bottle back in the kitchen where it belongs..I did'nt..I was using it up in the shed to de-taste some camping gear..Later,hot day,was looking for a drink, grabbed this square sort of one litre clear plastic bottle, big swig..YIKES !! Tasted like acid possibly does..Sprayed that out..Everywhere.Then (I repeat!) then,I read the label.."White vinegar" (I thought I had learned my lesson when,as a child,I drank kerosene (was white/clear in those days) in a bottle near the kero fridge.)!MPG:6!

I had that problem with mine, but the tank wasn't at fault. Problem was the hoses for the tap, filler and breathers. Replaced them all with the stiff light blue Nylex brand water hose from hardware shop.

BTW, theres another brand of smooth, flexible blue hose (Pope I think) that was called drinking water hose, but I found it too was full of plastic taste.

HI PHIL G
I tried everything to remove the plastic taste and i now use the blue nylex drinking water hose the reson the food grade plastic hose taste is that the clorine in the water from the town supply eats the hose where the blue nylex drinking water hose is not efected by the clorine the words (Drinking Water Hose) are branded on the out side of the hose

Also, if you want to run your water thru a charcoal filter, buy a white canister (like the under-sink units use) - the whole thing only cost $50 and the charcoal replacement filters are just over $20.

Hi Eza,

I have just bought a replaceable charcoal filter from Site Link and used it for the first time over Easter. I found it to be great. It was the first time that the water could be used for drinking.

Cheers

Try a product called EZ.RV it's a drinking water freshner. Just add it to your tank water. No flushing required. I bought mine from a caravan acc shop. Works a treat.

When you want to buy stuff that is not directly 4x4 gear like water tanks one should always check out the Truck Accessories shops as I did when i wanted a water tank, No taste, right height and dimentions, right capacity 80ltr. and it fits in under the bed in my troopie, If it's no good Truckies won't use it,

STRONG solution of Bi-carb, leave it in the tank at least overnight, flush, bi-carb again, then flush and you should be right assuming as others have suggested that all hoses and tank are food grade. If not food grade, replace them or you will never get rid of the tainted water taste.
