am looking at buying 1 Kva kipor generator $700 ish on ebay 1/2 price of honda, probably opening can of worms but anyone had any experience good or bad, have read all the blurbs re warranty think its worth thre risk for the money? any comments wanting to use it to charge 120 ah fullriver battery which currently lasts about 3 days without charging hoping to use generator to give a tickle up for extended stays, I figure if I run a tank of fuel through it every second day or so it should do the trick unless I get a better 240 volt charger to use with it to shorten charging time

If it is the Yellow Sinemaster (not the red one) it is a very good buy. The red one is different and lower grade. I paid just over $800 about 6 months ago.

No problems with mine. Starts easy and is very quiet. Similar to a Honda when under moderate load, but may be a bit louder when under full load.

I mainly use mine to charge batteries (including two 120 AH Fullrivers) via a 25 Amp CTEK smart charger, but also to run other things at times.

Can take a couple of pulls to start first up when it hasn't been used for a while, otherwise always starts first pull.

Used my yellow 1kVA Kipor over Easter to charge batteries and run a Breadmaker. Started first pull every time.

I took along a 20 metre extension lead to keep the noise away from the people.

I bought it for $600 from Novasmic on eBay - price goes up when a shipment comes in.

The internal 8 amp charger is very limited - you will need to buy one. KMart have started selling an NVP 15 amp 3-Stage charger for $99.

Hi Eza, we bought our Kipor last year and have clocked up 56 hours. We're happy with it. I looked at the species for Honda and Yamaha and wasn't much difference between fuel use, noise (Db's), overall dimensions, weight. The thing that got me was the far lower price. I bought an hour meter and installed it on the gennie and it gets it's power from the 12volt side, so whenever the Kipor is running the hour meter ticks over. It cost $80 and I've heard that you can get cheaper meters for $50 or so but who cares now. The gennie cost $890 at the Adelaide 4x4 show. Rus.

I have both the Kipor 1000ti and the 3000ti. The 3000ti has broken 2 of it's rubber feet, the design is not strong enough for the weight of this generator, especially if you are moving it around a lot. The 1000ti won't have this problem, different design. Both are excellent mechanically from my 4-5 months of use I have had so far. Very quiet..!

Have just purchased the Kipor 1000ti off ebay. Seems like a good unit for the price but it does not seem to run smoothly, it tends to surge as if mixture is not set correctly. Is this a common problem or a problem at all or will it settle down after some use?
Thanks

Did you buy it new.? Mine was doing this for a day to and then it was fine. Have you got the Smart Throttle switched on..? Make sure it's on. Don't forget to start it with the choke/start on and then switch it off straight away. Try running it with the smart throttle off,so it's running close to full throttle for a while and then see what happens. As I said mine did this for a day, I turned it off a little bemused, turned it on a few days later and bingo, never done it since. Otherwise speak to the place your bought it from, Novasmic..?? Also Macfarlane Generators are very good.

Yeah I did buy it new. I haven't needed to use it yet but started it up to try it out. I thought it was my imagination but each time I start it it seems to run a bit better, so maybe it will come good as yours did. I may run it for a while today under load and see if it improves. I don't expect it to be as good as a Honda or Yamaha but for the price I reckon it is worth a try. Basically just need it for once or twice a year trip up north. I have a Christies petrol powered battery charger, great unit but find it to be a bit noisy and has to run too long when freezing fish.
Thanks for the help

They do need running-in. Apparently they will handle a bigger startup-surge after 20 hours of use.

Mine is only up to 10 hours but I have no problems with it.

When running in is it best to do it under load?

What I've heard is that it is best to have a varying load.

That's where SmartThrottle and a Bread machine are great - the Thermostat kept on cycling on and off, varying the load from light to 50% several times a minute.

Have put a tank of fuel through it with a slight improvement. Pulled the carby off and cleaned jet with a bit more improvement. It still has a miss whether under load or not. While it was running I undid the carby drain plug and it ran perfect until it was starved of fuel. I'm no mechanic but to me it can either be the needle and seat or the mixture. Anyone have any ideas.
Thanks
