To
snorkel or not to
snorkel???
I am thinking on putting a
snorkel on my 2000 turbo diesel Jackaroo, I am not sure if I want to go ahead with it. Mostly because I like the look of the vehicle the way it is but I have been known to go through the odd bit of deepish water, I have not seen to many Jackaroos with snorkels and can not remember if it stands out TO much.
I also have a K&N air filter and I have heard that these are not good with snorkels, is this true? Any opinions would be great.
Also can’t wait to hear more about the ExplorOz T shirts, very keen. On my return to Aus I will become a member as I have been on this site daily for last 6 weeks. I live near the ExplorOZ base so I will be keeping a look out for those license plates. Would very keen to go on a trip with WA members and visitors.

Hi Jack
you are going to get all sort of interesting replies regarding the filters. Have you tried a search on K&N here? I think they are great for your city driving car they let in allot of air so the chance of getting dust and crap in, but not for the bush but again some people will swear by them. There was a recent post on here that had a link to a really good site that did a
test between all the filters do a search and you will see

Hi,
Just think do I like the look of my Jackaroo enough for an engine rebuild if that deepish water is just a bit too deep. I had a petrol Jackaroo until recently, with a
snorkel and was glad of it a few times. I thought it looked ok, but like you have not seen many with snorkels. We had the wash from the front of the car flowing up over the bonnet a few times with no issues. It is all
well and good to walk the crossings but if you are warned there is a croc at the crossing then what? There are plenty of warning signs in northern QLD and WA. Alternately, eyeballing a crossing is not always very accurate, that is how I ended up with water flowing across the bonnet.
Can't comment about your filter but had heard that the TD are a bit fussy.

Jack
cnt comment about the
Snorkel & Filters, however no problems about a trip when you get back. There is definite shortage of WA Gatherings.

We will sort a trip out then, so anyone in Peth or near by start thinking about it and we will get onto it, looking at end of May perhaps. day trip or overnighter wahtever would be good. even something south some good areas around Harvey and the odd winery there to stop in at. any thing would be good. I have been away for 9 weeks, working each day, and just want a break away.

Jack 2000 - I note our almost identical
forum names!! I guess that reflects our almost identical Jackaroos, although
mine is petrol.
I have an airtec
snorkel fitted - it doesn't stand out too much. And from the driver's
seat, I can't even see it at all. I also have not had any of the problems with
snorkel noise that some others do.
I have the original air filter, not a K&N.
