For those that are interested... GQ 4.2td. c/t weighs 1000kg. truck,2.99 tonne[fully loaded] ball weight, 100kg. Average fuel use for the trip from Brissy /Birdsville/Alice Springs/Perth[central rd.] 18l/100ks. ,dearest fuel was $1.75 at Jervois station.. total cost of travel , including smokes, was $195 a day, unfortunatly swmbo enjoys the comfort of c/p most nights, & a latte, when available! so that does'nt help the budget. But it has been a good trip so far.
Hope these figures are a help on your budget.. cya all ...Phil

Well, I'm tickled pink with my Easter trip fuel econmy. 2006 GU Cab Chassis, 4.2tdi and steel tray, full tanks and two adults - 12.3l/100ks Adelaide to Geelong on the Dukes Hwy, ave speed 100kph. The truck has only done 2,000 kms thus far so when it loosens up in a year or two the figures should improve. Mind you, when I put the camper on the back the economy will probably go to ruin! Ciao.

Hi Phil,
Sounds like a great trip and you must have had lots of fun.

Our 100 Series Landcruiser is a so called, "Gas Guzzling" V8 5 speed auto and when we have the '05 Kimberley Kamper in tow with a full load on vehicle, Kamper and roof rack, we average 19.5 L/100 K...so I guess that's not too bad when compared with the economical diesels...around 10% more fuel usage and usually 10% less at the pump price.

Well, there's more to life than worry about the cost of it...but thanks for your post as we're about to head off for 2 months in Central OZ and your stats have already been a big help in confirming our calculations.

Hope you have safe travels
Cheers
Rick & Julie

G'day Phil,
You're figures are very interesting. The wife and I are currently on an Oz trip towing a Kimberley Kamper - behind a 105 series Cruiser with aftermarket turbo. We are averaging around 17-18L per 100 klms. Mind you we have only been gone 4 weeks and set off through the high country so been doing very steep hils.

I'm guessing the trailer weighs in around 1300kgs and the cruiser is running 33" Cooper STT's with the gear - so not too bad I suppose.

Anyway - great info.
Chreers,
Smithy
