I am looking to update my 4wd from a 91 hilux 2.8D tray back to something with a bit more power and is good on the beach.
I carry a fair bit of gear to be self sufficient for long periods and the hilux does not let me sit on the 110km/hr speed limit.
I am considering a 99-01 Nissan Patrol tray back as I have heard they are very good on the beach and I like to get to those great fishing spots.
I would like to stick to a diesel, however I do not see the point if the injection is electronic.
If anyone has any comments on alternatives, suggestions etc they would be greatly appreciated.

All the secondhand 4.2 diesel Patrol's aren't electronic, although the 3.0 litre model is (but my pick would be a 4.2). Even the newly released 4.2 TD is only partly electronic.

Steve M. All patrol traybacks are diesel @ 4.2 litre naturally or turbo on the GU. This engine is a mechanically injected diesel. This would be the obvious choice unless you want to go with a 75 series Toyota and the cart springs. The latest intercooled 4.2 litre Patrol tray back($51,000) is also mechanically injected, BUT has ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED INJECTION TIMING ONLY, which is very different to electronically injected.
