evening every one,
can some one tell me how the explorer tows and what size van can they tow safely. looking at maybe a 18/20 foot with shower and toilet, so around 1700/1900kg at a rough guess. i did try and find it on the search but with no luck. i know it has been talked about before but it just as easy to ask again than try and find it. thanks. and have a good anzac day tomorrow.. any day day off work is a good day with me anyway..

The father in-law had a 2004 Limited Model with the Petrol V8 and used it to tow a 18ft Jayco Expanda. He said that the van towed alright but the fuel economy was terrible, it worked out on average to be 34 litres per 100km.
From memory I think that the explorer can tow 3000kg with the heavy tow pack.

$0.45 a kilometer for fuel sounds like a bargain I don't want to strike even if you are close to the city. Be over $0.50 and getting to well over that in a lot of areas.

Yeah the V8's are nice, but suck the juice when worked, drove one for a week over east (Uncles wife’s car) Black V8, full leather it’s a beast.

Had the opportunity to buy a 2003 Limited V8, but they are useless for 4Wding to car like a Body lift and bigger tyres are all that can be done to help (Yes the pre 2002 ones do actually go alright off-road) , but I like the look of em, it’s just such an American car.

Hi keepkampen,
Without knowing year and model it is difficult but if you visit www.redbook.com.au you can pick your specific model and it will give you the towing capacity. Just be aware that different states have different rules so check your local authority. I also have booklet provided by our WA state dept but can't just locate it.

What year?

The Ford Tow Pack for Australia is 2500Kg according to my handbook 1998 ,4.0 V6 SOHC, 5Speed Auto, 4WD, with the 3.73LSD.

It’s different in the US depending on what Diff ratios you have and Altitude you are towing at and bla bla bla, it’s not relent to her anyway.

I have actually had a few people (older gentlemen) ask me about mine and what they are like at towing, I have never towed in mine as I only have the U.S light duty tow pack that comes already fitted 1500Kg I think, but isn’t legal in Aus, but think thay would pull most thing’s no worries.
