rattle on gq

Hi guys,When I start the Patrol up when it is cold there is a funny rattle which is loud,but I cannot find it ,when it warms up the rattle goes away.The Patrol is a 4.2 efi petrol .Any advice would be great.Thanks

yeah when its cold all the oil is down in the sump, when you start up the oil gets pumped around and lubes everything up hence the noise going once warmed up,
plus engine parts expand and tighten up. cheers

What brand of oil filters are you using? Im betting they have no drainback valve in them.
This keeps oil in the filters when not running, takes less time to build up pressure.

Hi Trucster,Im running just std oil filter,just the one being a petrol model.Have you got you lap top yet.Ijust starting to come to grips with mine

Are you using Genuine Nissan filters, or cheapy ones?

Im using the after market ones,but the rattle has gone now,so all is ok now.

just food for thought.....check your front grill, they have a tendancy to rattle when they wear out around the plastic clips. Mine used to anny the hell out of me until i replaced the plastic clips with screws and washers. I think truckster recalls the discussion years back thinking the grill would crack offroading. All is good so far though. No rattles and no cracks.

Its hard to know what it is from reading the post, but any suggestions you get is another elimination to your cause.

Check that your front number plate is not rattling - mine was till yesterday!
