Does anyone know where you can get a Codan
HF radio (8525 with whip) repaired in Melb.
I have removed it from one vehicle , where it was working, and installed it in another and it won't turn on. Have removed it, and connected it to a reg. power supply and still won't fire up !
Thanks in advance. Neil

Telstat in Seaford would be my first port of call.
Took the club HF there for service, they upgraded software and all (think thats what it was).
also depends on what part of Melb.

Neil, it's the radio. Make sure that your remote cable is securely plugged in at both ends. Likewise with the power cable.
Check for 12v at the radios power connector. Can you hear a click when the power is connected ? If not.......Take the long cover off the radio. At the aerial end of the chassis and next to a rectangular plastic lump (relay) there are two fuses, both are soldered bits of wire that can be indentified as they are soldered between two posts, make sure that they are ok.
Good luck

Thanks for the advice. There is no "click" when power is connected, so will have a look inside tomorrow.
Thanks again

I think this model of antenna is not easily repaired.
Check out other posts in this
forum.
The bad news is a new one will cost between $1300 and $1600.
Check around for the best price, agood place to start is

Good luck

Are you thinking 8558 autotune ? The poster said a whip.

My understanding was the Radio and/or Aerial was not working and need to be fixed. The whip is only a piece of stainless steel or in some cases made of fibre glass, not much can go wrong with that.
In this
forum, and information from HF networks, and through personal experience this model antenna has some issues.
Of course it should be assessed by a competent technician ON THE VEHICLE.
My point is do not jump to conclusions get the Aerial checked out.
Hope this helps

AP, the poster said 8525 with whip aerial not turning on. A defective aerial is not going to stop the radio turning on.

Perhaps not, however a faulty or siezed 12volt motor in the antenna may
well blow the Radio fuse and it will certainly not turn on.
It should be assessed by a competent technician ON THE VEHICLE.

In the case of an autotune aerial, certainly. But this is a whip ! I stand by my competent technical reply that I gave him.

Thanks for the help.
It is the actual radio that won't turn on. Antenna is a whip.
Will
check the internal fuses and the mic is connected, but will
check for broken wires etc as per other posts.
Thanks

Neil, might sound a bit silly but the hand-piece (mic) has to be plugged in before it will fire up.
Same thing happened to me, took hours before the penny dropped @#$%^
good luck, Con (visitor)
