Anyone out there know if The Border Track through Gnarkat is open again? I know it was closed over the summer period but was also informed some of the track down that was staying closed because of damage?

did a quick run down there a couple of weeks ago. Re-openned start of April. Firebans just ended 15 April.

I have been down a number of times now. It is a bit overgrown at present (due to closure I guess) and the mud hole section at the bottom is REALLY rutted up (compared to previous visits the chicken tracks are now as bad as the rest). When I went through it was still dry and no problem at all but after some rain I suggest it may provide some challenges. 1 dune took me 3 attempts and another 2 but I hadn't lowered my tyres as far as I could (was down to 25 so had a bit to go if necessary). Before anyone has a go at me for destroying the dunes with too high pressures I didn't sit there digging holes once progress stalled and simply rolled back for another go.

I reckon I will be back in that country soon. See you there
Trevor

PS when I was there we passed another group with a trailer. I wouldn't want to try that!

Tx Everyone,

A few of us may take a run down there next weekend. Maybe Des Lexic can borrow Mrs's Lexics Subaroo and come for a drive

Back at Easter, we took four vehicles with two camper trailers through. No probs just be prepared to let tyres down to 12 or 15 to get over the big dunes easily. We turned left (east) just before Red Bluff and went toward Wyperfield then up to Neds Corner. Watch the road heading north past Wyperfield N.P.(on the western side), there's a couple of big blowouts on the tops of rises. We were leading and had the CT airborne for a while. The Border Track seems like it might get closed every summer due to NPWS not wanting litigation in the event of someone being caught there during a bushfire.Probably will be closed from Nov 15 to April 15.
