Had another three inches of rain last night and was talking to a tour operator today and he thinks it might be another month before the GRR opens.
Bit of a late wet happening, dosnt take much rain to flood things, ground very wet.I guess this may play havoc with some of your travel plans.Good luck all.

Hi Nick, we are departing
Melbourne on May 13 working our way up the old Ghan track to Alice doing
the rock etc. then across the Tanami and hope to arrive in
Kununurra early June so I hope your right about the
Gibb river road or it may be very hard to find a
camp site in or around
Kununurra.
Maybe I should get
plan B ready, go to
Broome then up the
Gibb river road if all this rainfall continues for much longer, is there any news on the river crossings.
Regards David

Carnt say much more on the rivers(I dont know)along the
Gibb River, apparently out at ELQ they got 2 inches of rain but everything is so wet that the water runs straight off into the rivers,so you could expect the Penticost river up again.
Not that it will effect the GRR but last week the highway between here and
Katherine was cut at Victoria Crossing, the water flowing 7 metre's over the bridge, this flood water was due to the cyclone dumping lots of rain across the top end.

Thanks for the information on the
Gibb River Road.We are leaving down south about mid May and going to
Darwin first so hopefully conditions will have improved by then.

gday Nick
finally spotted you - in the most unlikley of
places....my place - I was the bloke you saw mowing the lawn who gave a wave and looked at the back of your car for the explorer oz sticker. Just looked at the radar, and there is scattered showers at Kalumbaru and all over the place at the moment. only scattered, and should clear soon. I hope so, Plan to tow the boat to Kalumbbaru on the 12 of June
Cheers Andrew

Yeah I had to give and extended glance - was squinting to see the tassie plates, hopefully getting the eye surgery soon so I don't need the glasses. I know what you mean about the kids in the car - how many and how old - I hav a 1 yr old son and a 3 yr old daughter who knows everything! Feel free to drop in for a beer anytime, I always have a fridge full of
home brew stout and dark and stormies.
I'm off to the mine tomorrow morning, and back thurs night. This is the roster for the next 3 weeks, then
home for a week, away for a week,
home for a week, then off to Kalumbaru for a week. Catch up soon
Andrew

Yep nearly all fixed up now.We stayed there a couple of weekends ago in their tented cabins and they have got the place looking good, just a few little things to tidy up.Had a look at the pictures of the place after the cyclone had gone through, did a pretty destructive job of the place.

Looking at the pictures there, most tented cabins were destroyed, the cafe was wrecked
the pool was chock a block full with mud.The whole place was a wreck. No wonder they couldnt open the joint up again last year.

Thanks for the on
the spot report Nick. We're leaving
Perth in 3 weeks and heading North will be (hopefully) starting the GRR from the
Derby end on or about the 14th June so hopefully the road is open and just graded and that the rivers are down enough to travers safely. Also hope the road into the
Mitchell is open and that the water levels will be down. Here's hoping. It would really stuff up 12mths of planning. Fule price hike is bad enough.

Regarding fuel, its always a killer here($1.56).Another tip while up here.If your at
Wyndham fill up everything there as fuel is 20c/lt cheaper than here in
Kununurra.
