We went off the road at Yunta and thru the back way to Wilpena, its a nice outback offroad adventure that way, stayed in the Aroona Valley near the first creek crossing

Gertie, the way you have suggested thrtough Wilpena via Hawker is good and reliable for onroad vehicles. The road up through Yunta suggested by Bonz is a good one too for well tyred vehicles, not really offroaders. A bit more rugged and some stones that can pierce tyres of softroaders. Had a slow drive that way a few years back with just a space saver tyre as the distance between me and a long wait. Prepare yourself well with spares.

Gertie,
When are you going?
We travelled on the road from Yunta a couple of yrs ago, wasnt too bad.
Conditions will vary depending on weather, road works etc.
I know I kept an eye on, I think it was the SA Tansport site re road conditions.

Your on road vans may be ok if they have LT tyres?? travel slow etc.
Yunta Police may be able to help closer to the time.

Regards
Russ

G'day gertie,
I have just returned today from a trip the same as the one you are talking about.
The way you would go is up the road from Waukaringa about 8 Kms past the Curnamona Homestead and turn left on the road to Martins Wells.
The Arkaroola road is excellent at the moment. The road gang are working on it now.
The road past Erudina and Martins Wells is OK, but much slower than the Arkaroola road. The onroaders would have to be a bit careful if they have a long overhang. There are quite a few creek crossings from Erudina to Rawnsley Park (near Wilpena).
From Martins Wells it might be better to go north a bit towards Wirrealpa and then turn towards the Wilpena -Blinman Road from there. That would be easier for the onroaders than going left at Martins Wells to Rawnsley Park.
Not sure if you have been to Waukaringa before, but it's only an old pub and a few other ruins there. No facilities at all. Interesting old gold mining area though.
Dave.

G'day Gertie,
Not too sure if you want to go to Hawker. If you have a look at the map it's about 50 kms south of Wilpena and you say you want to go to Arkaroola too, and that's north of Wilpena.
It's been quite a few years since I went from Arkaroola to Lyndhurst and Maree etc.
You will have to go up to Moolawatana and then through Mt Freeling and then down the Strzelecki Track to Lyndhurst.
You would have to ask at Arkaroola what the road conditions are at the time. If you have softroaders with you that may make a difference.
Email me at bharrieatozemaildotcomdotau if you want more information.
Dave
