Had a guy in yesterday- wanted callsigns, channels etc on the back of his car.
A reasonably new Nissan Patrol with all the wanky, brandname, expensive bolt on accessories- including an overhead console- with the head units of his HF and GME uhf tidily mounted, to quote him "just in case the vehicle gets flooded!!".
Yup, great idea, til he proudly showed me the main units of the radios securely mounted under the seats!!!
Oh, a couple of accessories missing were a cargo barrier and fire extinguisher.

My apologies to Hoges. Maybe "Stupid Wanker with dollars to burn" would be more appropriate then.

Yeah, I know S wanker, seen him around at times. That Wanker family certainly has a lot of family members and they crop up just about anywhere. The post nominals suggest it is the eastern suburbs clan - the worst kind of Wanker - more money than sense.

I really enjoy my trips away when I don't run into the Wanker clan.

Kind regards

G'day Mad Dog,

I think the test is in need of succesfully satifying a number of criteria. Having the HF box under the seat in itself is not conclusive evidence of posessing the Wanker gene.

I've read enough of your posts to safely diagnose that the wanker gene is none existent.

Kind regards

Well thank you Sir, you are so kind. I'll let you know if I have a brain fade and forget to remove it before that deep water crossing......criteria satisfied...lol... Actually only a 20 second job to whip it out....at most

Oh well, have money will spend.
Reminds me of a guy who rolled up to a mates workshop in the Goldfields. He had a satphone, HF, epirb, and moving map etc etc. Told the mate it didn't work. Err...exactly what doesn't work ? NONE of it works !
Turns out he'd just ordered a burger with the lot, driven that far and suddenly worked out that he didn't have a clue about any of the new stuff in his (new) vehicle.

So surely you told him having the main units under the seats would be a problem if flooded, plse tell me you did..!

You have a duty of care to help convert this poor guy , what was his call sign..?? Comeon please.. LOL

Ok Ok...I think I did the right thing. I suggested strongly he at least fit a cargo barrier. and then it might be a good idea to mount the radio units up high on the barrier.
And the callsign BigBird !!!

Hi Signman,
Please let me know where you work. I'd like to make sure that I never become one of your customers. It's bad enough for you to bag the guy publicly; to put his call sign in this post shows you need to take a good look at your ethics.

Cheers Frank.

Frank,

The other unfortunate aspect is that I'm sure I've seen a Visitor with that moniker or a Member with that callsign :((((

I agree with Frank, your ethics leave a lot to be desired, firstly you set yourself up on a pedestal as some sort of 4wding expert by ridiculing someone elses rig, then you publicly humiliate the person by publicising his call sign.

It would be best for all concerned if this thread was deleted.

Tch, tch, tch gentlemen. I think the little green eyed god of envy is biting.

We'd probably all kit out our rigs with every known accessory on the market if we had the chance ($$$$$s) and the inclination.

I must be daft.. I dont see how putting your call sign etc on the back of the car helps you in anyway if you are flooded.. is that so someone else can call you and tell you you are going under water??? what the ?????
I too have as many bells and whistles as I can afford on my car does that make me a waker too?? although there isnt a one I dont think I haven't used to get me out of trouble (some I have used to get into it) But by having all means necessary to get me out of trouble I will generlly be a little more adventurous.. so to all those who drive a stock standard 4x4.. I say.. come join us wankers and take a little more risk becuase it's more fun and we can get ourselves out of more bleep if we do stuff it up.. if you aint stuffing up occiaionally then you aren't trying hard enough.. The only reason I would leave a 4x4 stock standard is if I wanted to be another type of "wanker" that only drives it on road.. the reason we put extra bells and whistles on is so we can go "out there" that bit further..
I agree with gramps.. just becuase someone has a nicer car or more bits we shouldnt call them a wanker.. how about saying.. nice car mate.. wish I could afford to do that to mine.. good on ya and have fun mate..

I'm really amazed at some of the comments and inferences by making a simple comment. Are some of us illiterate- or just can't read??
OK..let's go thru it again, in summary:
The guy had gone to a lot of trouble to mount the remote heads of the radios UP HIGH so they wouldn't get affected in case the vehicle flooded with water.

OK..are we all together here...
He then 'proudly' showed how secure the main units of the radios were mounted UNDER the seats.

Get it???...ya don't??..sorry then, I can't help you.
As far as the acccessories on the vehicle- that's his business, not mine.
And no, he's not a Forum person, or a club member- and that's his business, not mine.
Doh..chill out guys!

yeah but yeah but no but yeah but......why are you amazed.

you forget to say you said:

>>with all the wanky, brandname, expensive bolt on accessories- including an overhead console- >>

That's what's offensive.

Makes a lot on here wankers than doesn't it?

The guy might be just learning, starting out. OK so he believes everything he reads in 4wdmthly, he'll learn - people bleep me with this attitude.

tall poppy syndrome at it again I think.

". . . with all the wanky, brandname, expensive bolt on accessories- including an overhead console"

and

"Are some of us illiterate- or just can't read??"

I think most of us not only can read but also make an judgement on the sentiments behind your words.
