I bet it came from the measurement being 1250 miles. Makes for a shorter tape measure :-)

Nah, they already know the circumference of the planet so the start at the end of the reef and run the tape around to the beginning. They subtract that measurement from the known circumeference and hey presto.....that's the length of the reef.

The surveyors charge per 100km's so that amount was left off due to rounding up for the GST.

Was aware of that. Due to cultural 'sunsatuvuties', the NZ leg was measured in the standard local system of distance. For those unfamiliar with the NZ ISO system, here it is....

17 'chups' to a 'jandle'
7 'jandles' to a 'rubber boot'
3 'rubber boots' to a 'ewe'
942 'ewes' to a 'killer ewe'

So the NZ section was 1,241 kE's, 11 Rb's, and a chup which equates to 1,240km's.

Nup, they are just giving an honest measurement nude man, no rubber tape measures allowed.

IPF 900XS lights on another thread are waterproof to 11.8" for two minutes, just don't go that extra .2 or you'll be sorry.

11.8 seems a lot of inches and anything lasting for two minutes seems like a long time to me.
