We will be in Alice from mid to end of June, half way through our road trip, and thought we would like to rent some self contained accommodation to clean up and get ready for heading to the Kimberleys. I called Alice Springs Tourist Apartments but Peter was soooo rude I couldn't possibly give him any business.
Any ideas for other self contained accommodation or which is the best caravan park closest to Alice? Any opinions greatly appreciated.
thanks.

If you go the caravan park route, my advice is to choose a caravan park well away from the river. Last time my sleep was nonexistent becasue of noise from the camps.

One previous trip we stayed in a nice if basic motel and ate at the Memorial club the people atr the motel were great, if you want to go that way, reply and I'll see if I can find the details.

Hi orca

Cant remember the name of the van park we stayed in, it was near the river and SSOOOOO noise. I'd try somewhere away from there.

Make sure you check out the Alice Springs Desert Wildlife Park while you are there. One of the best Zoo's we have been to.

have a good trip.

orca,
Try the McDonalds Range caravan park, it is big, far enough away from the river, has facilities to do your own 4WD service.
You will need to book ahead by a few days at least as all the caravan parks are normaly pretty full
Good Luck

Old Johno

Will be in alice next month & we are staying at Macdonnell ranges caravan park, from the map on their website it shows its located right on the edge of the river. Is this the same place your recommending?

ingo57,
The Macdonald Ranges Caravan park is approx 6-700M from the Todd river. There is another park right on the river & that would be the one that gets all the noise.
Good Luck

I'll make that three votes for Mac Ranges.

We had a great stay there. We were there in school hols and they had activities for the little people. The astronomer was very interesting.

Make it four. That was always our stop over on the way from Darwin to Adelaide. The cabins were nice and the other amenities were great.

I was on a few Jobs out of Alice Springs last year and I stayed at Temple Bar Caravan Pk, 8.6klm down Ilparpa Rd ,thats a right turn not far from Heavertree Gap heading South. It's small , Quiet , beautiful backdrop by the cliffs, and a way lot cheaper than the bigger ones closer to Town and Dogs are allowed

Would highly recommend Wintersun Cabin and Caravan park in Alice. on the north side of town.
very small road frontage, no noise issues ( from any source) at all when we were there in 2003 on way home from kimberley.Spent 3 days R&R there.
we tented but they have quite a few self contained ensuite cabins.
cheers
