Just for interest have a look at post 33574, that will more than likely be a slipper spring setup with the front eye broken off. With a air bag and bump stop you will get a sinking feeling and still be able to limp on with a much reduced chance of it causing an accident situation. I use reduce because Murphy still lives and breathes. Barnray

mate i want to do the same with the big axle and tyres but i talked with a
bloke from an enginer shop in alice and we came to the conclusion that
slipper springs would do the job, easy to replace and you can find something
to bodge it up from an old wreck easy enough in the NT.
i think your idea might be a bit bouncey, dont know.
main thing is dont use your boat as a camping trailer.
got a 4.5mt poly so i dont have to worry about the boat to much.
cheers

Belco Trailers in Brisbane build brilliant off road trailers using Vehicle Components gear. Give Rian a call and he would be willing to help you. I have a 5.0 Trailcraft on one and could not find anything better. Swing arm suspension over leaf springs, supported by Hilux shockers. AT35 fully articulated hitch and 16" L/cruiser wheels means you can take your boat almost anywhere.

Jake,I am in Darwin & am in the process of getting an off road boat trailer built for me at Voyager trailers,Darwin -they are behind" Get Stoned with Tom" on the Highway coming into Town. They build a lot of boat trailers for the tour guides sohe knows what he is talking about. His web site with photos is
www.voyagerboattrailers.com/. Dave who owns and operates it is a good bloke and would give you advice if you rang him. John
