Hey Guys and Gals,
Any ideas for good
camp spots for 24 hour explore of
Carnarvon Gorge in June.
Will have capable 4wd and off road trailer for camping. No facilities required. Any comments or
feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Regards

As far as I know and the last time we were there it was walk in camping only in
the gorge.
Outside
the gorge there is a caravan park. There is also a park at
Rolleston which is a fair way away from
the gorge.

As Notso said, there is no camping in the park if that was your intention. The caravan park called Takarakka is located just outside the park boundaries and is only a couple of klms to drive back into the park for day trips.
Takarakka is a nice spot to stop for the night and offers a wide variety of camping options. Do a web search and have a look at their site. Nice bushy enviroment.
The Rollenson option is too far to travel in my opinion to make the 24 hour stop over enjoyable.
The Goprge is a beautiful area to explore, you wont regret the time you spend there.
Cheers, Patrick

Takaraka is a nice spot, but the whole
gorge park is way too commercial for me, and what ever happended to bush camping. I guess it is because of the sheer number of visitors they get.
The sights at
Carnarvon are worth seeing for sure, but I prefer the camping at Salvator Rosa anyday.

try this place.
Its a few K's south of
Carnarvon gorge but it has a great bush kitchen as
well as it's own private gorge/bushwalk with
cave paintings. The facilities are spotless and
well worth the stay.
