I have been looking for quite a while to buy either an Engel or Waeco 40 litre fridge. So far I have not been able to find any
places that offer a discount. I hate paying full recommended retail prices.
Is anyone aware of any
places where I can get a better deal ?
Also, should I buy an Engel or a Waeco ? If I buy the Waeco, I'd have to add almost $100 or so for the AC adaptor, don't I ?
Cheers,
CC

I've been told that retailers are not allowed to discount Waeco's. But they often throw in extra's for free (eg the 240V adaptor, cabling, etc).
My folks bought one and got over $150 of extra's for free, but still had to pay RRP for the fridge itself.

Nigel,
Thanks for the reply. Can you give me the name and contact of the
shop where your folks bought the fridge ? Some extra goodies will be good !
Cheers,
CC

It was a little local auto parts
shop in regional far north queensland, so probably out of the way for you.
Just get a list of all the retailers close to you and go and ask each one what they will throw in... They won't offer, so you gotta ask...

i know how u feel been ther and was at a show last week looking at a 50 litre waeco for my brother retail $987 all the same but a local will do one for me for 937 $50 difference and the bag $120 and a/c adapter $50 or all up $1080 or a geelong gut will do total for 1071 as the bag was only $85 which no one else would do
apparently all going up at
easter due to the fluctuating aussie versus us and euro dollar.
pity all the factory second are sold out from the waeco website.
cheers

Have a look at this site;
www.fridgeshop.com
log onto it then click on factory seconds, there seems to be some good bargains. they only seem to deal with waeco.
I bought a 40L waeco in
Perth a few months ago and it has done quite alot of very rough trips, we can't fault it. it cost $800 including the powerpack and the insulating bag compared to $1175 for the engle not including the bag. You should consider the 50L waeco as there isn't to much of a price differance. Hope this is some help.

I hate to tell you this but the fridge
shop is owned by WAECO. Its the building beside them, so if you find no one
home ring WAECO and you will see a rep magically appears at the fridge
shop. Believe me I live on the
Gold Coast.

CC. A friend of
mine is currently going through this choice and has had some success with pricing, so if you're not Brad from Morayfield and you live in
Brisbane, get back to me via "follow up" on this
forum and I'll give you the address of a mob who sell Engels considerably cheaper than anyone else.

CC,
Might be worth checking out the Trading Post. Anyone who picked up a petrol Prado in the old model run-out had a 40l waeco thrown in for free.
Also if you have any contacts at a Toyota dealership they might be able to help out. They had an internal promotion on them as
well.
Best of luck.

Went past a caravan spares
shop in Scoresby/Mounyain
Gate a weekago and they had a big
sign out front advertising a sale on engel, waeco and evacool fridges. I think the
shop was called Award Caravan Supplies (not sure about this).
It was on Ferntree Gully Rd about 200m before you get to Burwood Hwy.
I didnt go in (short on cash at the moment) so dont know any prices.
Hope this helps

I would be interested in the fridge place where your friend has found the
lower prices.
I am also going to 4wd show. (last day for all the specials)

Lloydy. My friend didn't give me the name of the place but they are at
45 Nealdon Dve, Meadow Brooke. Ph 3805-4510 and ask for Chris. He quoted $838 for a 21litre job. Hope it pans out for you.

Wandin Field Day this weekend would be a starting place..
Failing that 4x4 shows are the go.
Not many
places like to BARGAIN with 4wd stuff.. if you dont want it at that price, the bloke behind you will pay it.

CC, bought 21lt engel today at Olbis brsbane for $835 and cover for $139 best price I could find in brissy. Am only going to use engel as freezer, and freeze water bottles overnight to run ice esky for other fridge foodstuffs on my long trips. Most people I have spoken to, that do long trips run much the same setup that way you only have to go into the freezer morning and night to replace blocks which keeps the power drain to a minimum. If you put your frozen food for that nights meal in the esky at the same time this also assists the esky coolness while defrosting. 21lt will take 6x 2lt milk bottles standing up side by side in twos..
Cheers Firey

If you can settle for 2nd hand you can save $$$. Look in ExploreOz trader section or search (e.g. for Waeco or Engel) at www.ebay.com.au There is a 45L Waeco currently going for $450.
