Hi everyone,

Just wanted to know if anybody out there has a scorpion sdi1000 sine wave generator. I think they are a new model and was wanting an opinion on how quiet they are. They are rated at 58db half load, but with some of these cheaper ones you wonder where they get the figures from. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Been there, done that. IMHO they are not worth it. We had nothing but trouble with ours. From the 12volt plug not working, to it just cutting out for the hell of it. After 3 months of back and forth between Repco, the Scorpion rep, and the repairer, we gave up and demanded our money back. Even that took a fair while to get.

A mate took one to Finke desert race last year to give it a go....... It almost lasted the weekend and it if it didnt die on its own accord we were going to kill it because of the noise and the cotinuous maintanence to keep it going.
Dont do it!!

Got one

Currently waiting for a new petrol cap which split the first time we took it away.

It seems noisy to us but we have nothing to compare it with.

The 12 volt plug was wired backwards out of the box.

Pass em by.
Any mug can be uncomfortable out bush

And some people complain about stuff made in china , Scorpion -Austech ?? Australian ??? thats what the box my 950w claims ,,now 3yrs old and never missed a beat ,,had noise level checked by sound tech = 57db at 7mtr at load., they had a recall due to 12v plug/socket configuration being too close in looks to 240v ,, my 12v never varies ,always 14.6v.

Ditto

We've run up over 400 hours on ours. A new NGK plug first up, and never a problem thereafter. Been an absolute ripper.

I had that exact model. Good honest operator for the money. The sine wave model ran my laptop very well etc etc.
My main use was on a fibreglass boat though and the vibration of 2 stroke set up harmonics that was not bearable.
So Sold it and got the honda version... does the same but smoother and more expensive.
For what its worth when the honda is at full revs (not eco throtled) it is very similar in noise level to scorpion but little/no vibration. If my main use was bush... I would stick with the scorpion and save the $
