G'day,
just wondering if anyone can tell me what the two steel pipes that attach via a single bracket to the front of the cross member of the chassis rail below the radiator on a 100 series are for? If that made any sense... And, does anyone know of a mob that makes a bash plate that can be attached to protect these pipes from stone and rodent damage?
Chris

power steering pipes from p/s pump to p/s box. don`t know if anyone makes a bash plate, would be pretty easy to make one your self but would need holes/slots in it to let air through to radiator.

They stick them out there so the airflow can cool the power steering fluid.
The hotter the fluid is the greater the wear on components and in an extreme loss of steering assist.

It's a pitty they dont supply a perforated bash plate because the ones on my truck are so badly damaged that one more roo I'd say would see them finished off. I am having a fight with the dealer I bought it off to get them replaced under warranty. The bracket that holds them on is also missing. Danged ex-government vehicles...

You could always replace them with a small auto trans cooler mounted up higher out of the way. Bigger surface area and extra fluid in the system (bigger capacity) will negate poorer airflow probably.
