Depends on your planned usage.

Even with a fridge/freezer, my big deep cycle second battery rarely hits rock bottom (although I usually don't stay in one place for more than one day).

I do have permanent jumper leads between the main calcium/calcium starter battery and the second deep cycle - large diameter cables with 175A Anderson plugs that I can just connect/disconnect with a minimum of fuss and no risk.

I think you are talking about the diesel in which case you have 2 options.

1) Move the fuel filter and fit a 3rd battery over the L.h. Wheel arch.

or

2) Fit a controller between the 2 main batteries and fit 1 High cranking battery and 1 100 a/h aux.

I run a 55A/H Optima Yellow Top in the rear of the vehicle through a Pirahna isolator mounted under the passenger seat. Has done the job for a number of years running an Engel 40L fridge and sundry 12V appliances including a 300W inverter. Really needs to be charged up each day. I have had it tested and it is OK.
Just purchased a Twozone so I'm looking to upgrade the battery to an AGM of much higher A/H.

If it was my vehicle i would fit the third battery and make this the starter battery,then use the other two as the aux batteries this would run a decent fridge for up to 4-6 days instead of flogging the guts out of one battery.
