Hello People and Hilux owners,

I was curious to know if anybody out there has lifted or modified the ride height of their new Hilux. I'm talking about the New 2005 Model. I'm aware that their are suspension kits out in the market to correct the ride height problem this new model has. But having looked at my rig, I don't really carry alot of gear all the time and I feel that the only mods to make are under the front end of the vehicle. I feel the rear travels fine, maybe it could use new bigger bore shocks, but I think the rear springs are suitable enough. Has anyone played around with the suspension a bit on this model? Or can anyone offer further advise on what they have done to improve ride height and quality when offroading and this ground clearance problem in the front of the vehicle . I'm not after anything that will make the car ride any harder than what it is now, but mainly to improve the ride height especially under the front end.

NB. I have a DualCab style side V6.

The new Hilux got almost the same(front) suspension as current Prado.

Bilsteins shocks seems to be the best for the ride quility etc...

I put a 2" lift in the front to compensate the weight of the winch, duel bat,b/bar.
The rear was left standard height, with bilsteins allround. Great ride and handles better aswell.

Here is a pic of how it sits.(i hope this helps)

Dave,

Bilteins seem to be the go as I've heard before.

Did you find that this seems adequate.
I noticed last time I was up at Double Island Point. I could not believe how much sand was trapped behind that front Skid Plate.

My previous vehicle was a 95 4Runner with 2" lift running 31inch BFGoofrich A/T's which gave me plenty clearance.

As I mentioned I do feel that only the front Suspension needs attention.
I just want to make the right choice.

Regards

Stuart

Hey Stuart, Bilsteins are the best for the job.

If you do a 2" lift in the front, it will look good (ride height).
What is your ute SR or SR5?

Went to the cape york last year, no dramas with clearance.
I run 31's on standard SR5 alloy rims.

The only problem I seen with the bilteins is not the shocks themselfs but
with incorrect setups. If you get jsut the parts etc you will have the problems... if you get someone who knows what they are doing to fit them properly with the correct bushes/settings etc then you won't have a problem at all.

Dave and Stan. I agree about getting them fitted properly. I probably get Fulcrum Suspension to do the job. My mate has a 90series PRADO with Bilsteins and 265/75/16, and he has oodles of clearance and the ride is spot on.

My uterous is the SR model. I couldn't justify the price of the SR5 with the limited extras on it. I don't pay for fuel so the V6 doesn't worry me with economy. It performs well with an average of 13.5 - 14 ltrs per 100klms. I do have plans to fit an ARB deluxe Bar and new rubber. I'll probably go with 245/70/16 Pirelli Scorpion A/T's. But I'll need 16x7 rims as the standard 16x6 won't take anything wider than 225's.
The 245/70/16 are spot on for the 15mm diameter limit and they fit within the tyre place card restrictions of Load Index and Speed Rating.

I do plan to do a CapeYork trip in the near future so I'll need to do those mods.
I've just had a tray liner spraid on by xtreme coatings. You can check them out at www.xtremecoatings.com.au. The finish looks sweet.

Anyway Dave with CapeYork, did you do a tag along tour, or just go with friends & family ?

regards

Stew

I had a look at your RIG. That's a pretty interesting looking lid on the tray.
And I see that you've also fitted a rear bar to carry a spare and fuel.

I'm curious to know what front bar and winch your've fitted to it.
Roughly what sort of costs did these extras set you back ?

Stew, the rear wheel carrier, top up hard cover, bullbar are imported from Thailand. This were bought allmost 12 months ago. Wheel carrier was $870+paint,
Hard cover was $1600 painted & fitted, Bullbar was $890 + paint. Winch is a Mile Marker 9000lb low mount, with in cab controlls $1100. I think ARB and TJM would be double the price.
Hope this helps.

Have around 60mm lift on new single cab hilux, with Bilsteins and ripepro springs. No problem with CV's (touch wood) and done around 25000km's.

Haven't touched my suspension on mine, just put 17" wheels and tryres on it and that has lifted it approx 2.1 inches according to the tryre/wheel chart overall diameter. Will look at the suspension down the track.
