Very big question... as you face plenty of them if you are about to find the right equipment for you 4WD.
I am going to buy a LC 100 TD (IFS) soon and I intend to replace the
suspension system and fit an aftermarket
suspension. My 4WD should be able to handle 3600-3800 kg, which is rather heavy. I would also like to lift it up about 30-40mm. Before I go and ask the various shops, I would also like to hear your opinions on this. Here are my related questions:
1) Any positive or negative
feedback on particular brands (no brand bashing, by experience only please)
2) How much is it going to cost me roughly. I was estimating 2500-3000 AUD incl. fitting of it. Will that be enough?
As usual, thank you very much,
Dirk

Thank you Stan,
I still keep wondering about the cost of the
suspension change. Of course it varies between different types and brands... obviously.
May I ask, how much it cost for you with the
suspension mentioned on lcool? Will I be OK with the estimated 2500-3000 (fitting inc)?
Thanks
Dirk

Dirk,
Best to ask Darren directly darren at ats4x4 dot com for the cost. My car is Prado, so setup is a bit diffrent and it doesn't need the A-arm fix and Diff drop...

See a Toyota Dealer about the A-Arm prior to doing anything. They have finally admitted it as a potential warranty claim and you will get it checked for nothing and maybe a new one for nothing if there is a problem
My research showed problems if you try to raise the IFS too much. I went for the ARB Old Man Emu option with new Torsion Bars and also Polyairs
Shock, Torsion Bars, Springs, Stone Guard for Shocks, A Frame Fix, Polyairs and lsabour All up $2,123
Shock will cost from $550 to $1300
Torsion Bars from $410 to $600
Springs from $280 to $350
Poly airs around $291
All above - plus fitting
TJM, Rancho and Tough Dog are the same
OME are made by Monroe
King Springs and Lovell are the same
Apparently Bilsteins Koni and Lovell are the best (but expensive)
Stay away from Foam Cell - Gas is best

Thank you Trekkie,
for the very detailed information. Just what I was looking for. When I get into
Melbourne I will have a look around.
But I guess you can never do enough research before you go for something.

From ARB. I had a set on my old springs and they advised they had seen problems fitting old Polyairs to new system so for $290 I thought I would also have new Polyairs. They did not need to fit new hose lines etc, so it may have been a little cheaper.

Hi
John - You could very
well be correct, but I was told that Springs sold as Lovell and King Springs came out of the same factory. If you have a look at each Web Site their comments about manufacture are almost the same. They both use the same steel from OneSteel and their process etc are described as being what appears to be the same. Even the Australian Standards (ISO) appear the same.

It's like comparing two
winches made on the same chinese factory :)
They are not the same as they are made to the different specs...
Also quality is not the same as it used to be a couple of years ago, e.g.
you can't get the same Lovell springs as I currently got in my car and expect them
to perform as good........

Trekkie, Lovells are made in
Newcastle.
Go to Lovells Springs and select "Facilities"
Kings are made on the
Gold Coast.

Thanks for that - it is intersting when you start doing research - I upgraded the
suspension on my 100S late last year - Not sure who told me they came out of the same factory - I can now see they are different - Thanks

An LC100 owner last week told me do an aftermarket front differential too Dirk. I was with two members of the Riverland SA Four Wheel Drive Club three weeks back where they had both done front diffs - in training exercises.

Dirk,I have had all the work done that you intend to do at ATS 4x4 as per the link that Stan gave, and their work is first class.I would not give out costs etc as there are many variables with what each person wants and the size of their budget.Suffice to say that I am 100% happy with all the work and will say that ATS is competitive with all other alternatives. In my opinion however they are
well ahead of the field in expertise in many aspects of 4x4 fit outs.
Friends but no affiliations to this company etc etc.

Ditto for my 100 Series - A couple of people trying to emulate what Darren does, but he does the complete package, even with 'try before you buy' options - worth an email..

Can anyone give round figures to the ATS upgrade? It all sounds like everyone has been sworn to secrecy on the matter.

I can tell you the figures for the Prado Premium package but have no idea what are the costs for the Cruiser. As I said before better to e-mail Darren directly.
