Hi all,

Thinking about going down to Craig's Hut for the weekend.... Anyone know what the condition of the road is? Does the road close in snowy conditions and is there snow there now?
Thanks

Condition - you can drive a car up there.
yes road CAN close if its bad enough, which it isnt yet.
yes there was small amount of snow up there, but not enough to make a snowman.

you could almost drive your commodore up there. Snow....hmmm haven't had any much for over a week and the weather had been rather mild so any that was there would be almost gone. You may see some patches of snow but won't cause your commodore a prob!

In about 1957 the then government surveyed the Wonnangatta for a highway from Myrtleford to Gippsland so I guess anythings possible....

Thankfully that's one road project that never got up and running.

The road will close close after the Queens Birthday long weekend. They don't normally close any of the tracks in that area prematurely if snow falls but do leave the Stirling summit track closed for a few extra weeks in November quite often due to snow drifts on the summit. The snow that fell last Monday / Tuesday was pretty much all gone on Sunday although there may be a patch or 2 in the shade near the top. Looking at the BOM site it appears there will be some snow showers this weekend.
Cheers Craig..............

Clear Hills Track to the summit from the Monument turn off was closed on 1st May (damn it).

There was some logging going on a few weeks ago and the roads were closed from time to time for that - circuit track that is.

There was some discussion about it a couple of weeks ago, suggesting some muddy areas from grading in the area, but I don't recall it, except on the road in from Merrijig.

Andrew.
