Try ringing the NWPS at their Robe office.
Little Dip Conservation Park is their juristriction, as is Butchers Gap, I recall.

1223 is a free call to get a telephone number.......................

Would be very interested to hear if they are and if so why.
Truckster, where where you `told` from? Robe and Beachport are some of the best places to go and love going down there so would be very disapointed if this was the case.

Truckster,
There was an article in the Advertiser recently with a photograph showing tracks all over the place, obviously this was in the sandhills not on the beach itself.
This article was mostly aimed at motor bikes, but you know the rest.
From memory a local conservation group were looking at closing something if things didnt improve. I dont have any idea if that article and what you are talking about are related.

The lady at the bechport tourism place had a bit of a spit at the bikes...

But nobody knows anything about it. there is a marine sanctury happening btu thats offsure, so that might have been twisted into closing parts of the beach.

Hoping Zig from the Beachport club comes up with some info :)

All rumours as usual.
The local 4wd groups (Wattle Rangers and the Mount Gambier 4wd group) have formed a working party with DEH and other interested groups at creating a policy/direction for access to the regions beaches and tracks.

At this stage there is no talk of closing anything.

This group will be seeking comment from local property owners abutting the park areas regarding access issues.

Before any proposed closure would occur we will be strongly pushing for public comment.

The issue of bikes is a big problem as there are a lot of people taking uninsured and unregistered bikes into teh Nat Parks. Often there are some riders also unlincensed. These the Nat Parks guys are getting heavy on.

As things come more clear I will post details on this forum.

Recently went in this area (just after Easter) and although plenty of tracks/ruts etc these should disappear quickly through winter (wind and rain).

Truckster - November will be a definite.

Our clubs opinion is that it would be close to impossible to close all access points to the beaches and police any form of closure. There is a beleif that we may see permit system similar to other Nat Parks for day passes etc for a fee.

Bikes - Not really.
The buggy club is actually sited on Crown land and they have sole use via a lease.
The buggy club do not encourage bikes on their land. Even our Club has been told we should have written permission from the buggy club before we enter their area (excluding the marked track from Beachport to Nora Criena/Robe).
The land in this area is either Crown/DEH or private lease/ownership and bike riders would need to arrange separate agreements or take chances in a) not getting caught riding in the property or b) not get caught riding to these areas (as access is via public roads).

Cheers
Zig
