Seeing the ABC TV show "Peking to Paris" has fired my imagination about travelling from China to Europe by 4WD. Does anyone know how I can discuss the merits and logistics of such a journey.

I would really like to meet peolpe that have a similar yearning for travel in the next couple of years.

Chris

This couple from Alice Springs have travelled the world in their Troopy. A fascinating read. I have had correspondence with them over some time and they are quite willing to give advice.

Thanks Willem, the site looks fantastic. Beats me you can find such great sites, I can never do it. I have been on to the Kingmill site, it will take a week to digest. Also thanks for the very prompt response.

Thanks for the roads2recovery info, I particularly am intereted in the Logistics section with web pages by other overlanders, that will keep me thinking for some time yet.
Do you know if the UK travellers made it to Oz?
Thanks again for the quick response this morning.

Try also' Africa Overland ' (it's not limited to Africa)- there's heaps of people on the road on the globe- UK/Europe to South Africa (and the other way) is pretty popular, and there are countless detailed trip reports of travels/vehicle details/ kit/do's and dont's etc etc. I hope to meet the Kingsmills (ref. Willem's comment, above) shortly in Alice Springs- on my way to Kimberley- as they have done not only Africa trip but across the top (Mongolia etc.) as well in their Troopy- they really are proof that "it can be done" by the rest of us. ONly thing I reckon is that you'd want to take a fair while to do it to get the best value out of all those shipping costs.

Thanks Tony, the web sites at Africa-overland are fantastic.

You are right when you say all of these trips take a fair while, better start now while we still have some time. Plenty of time later to sit on the veradah and watch the world go by.

I feel so lucky that the web brings us the knowledge to achieve our dreams, we just need to get out there and do it.

Another good site is:

www.sahara-overland.com/ try the forum area very good info.

We have lots of crazy trips from the UK here are some of the crazy ones

www.mongoliaorbust.com/index.htm

www.plymouth-dakar.co.uk/

Site Link

www.sos2oz.com Not sure if this works as the filter at work blocks it but it used to work from home.

There are many crazy trips from the UK all over the word, and its shows it does not matter what you drive with enough willpower you will make it.

Thanks for the info scottcamp. I particularly like the Regional Forums in Sahara-Overland and the Mongol Rally looks like fun for those based in UK. Thanks again.
