hi everyone, i'm a little confused, i have a 92 maverick 4.2 petrol and the tappits are getting noisier all the time. i have been told by a mechanic that they are hydraulic tappits there fore can't be adjusted. i have just brought a gregorys service manual and that says they aren't hydraulic and have to be adjusted every now and then. i will be having a look in the weekend but was wondering if anyone else has been told the same thing. peter

Hi Keep
The 3 lit petrol RB30 has the hydraulic tappets wheras the 4.2 Lit petrol needs the periodic adjustment of the tappets
cheers

I have the same vehicle and it is a must that the valves clearances be done every 20k. They have a tendancy to close up and this is why it is important. Their not hard to do, just make sure the car is at full operating temperature. It's certainly better to hear them than have them too tight.

Glenn

All the TB and TD series engines have adjustable tappets even the 4.5 litre normally done every 40k but the petrols on gas should be done every 20k to prevent any burnt valves
