Just brought myself a Jayco Expanda Van and although i stupidly thought that I was an equal shareholder in the marriage I have been told the van gets a TV or I get to go solo all over the place.

Now that idea has some appeal I kinda figured it would be good to have someone to reverse me up to the van each day so I guess a TV it is.

Anyone got any ideas about a good LCD TV that I can mount on a swing arm type arrangement so that it can be moved to suit wherever its being watched from. The ones that Jayco fit are a $1700 option and the TV is not that special.

Ideas??

Regards

Dave

I've got a better idea.

Get a reversing camera for the vehicle to help with the hitching, and let her fulfil her threat!

Be buggered if I'd put a TV in.

We got a Kross LCD from eBay; excellent picture, sound a bit tinny - then they came out cheaper ($299 i think) on special at Woolworths. The antenna we got from Dick Smiths isn't much chop though. Got a decent swing arm from a caravan accessory dealer in Tasmania at around $100 after much looking around here and on the Internet before we left. Check out a big caravan parts shop. We haven't watched telly in the caravan yet. We'll get some better speakers which will work for the laptop (if i ever get it back from repair shop) for DVDs and music also.

Personally i don't think we need the telly, but the boss (who hardly ever watches it at home) insisted.

Suggestion re camera is good - not for reversing - we navigators can do that (as well as cooking, washing up, cleaning, budgeting, shopping etc); but for readily seeing the road behind you when travelling.

Make sure your LCD TV have VESA mount.
Then can go to most computer shop to get a swing arm for LCD monitor.
Think I also saw the arms at Warehouse or GoLo too
Don't know how the arm fare when bouncing around in the van while travelling.
Happy towing

You strap the monitor against the wall. It's easier than pulling the leads out each time, although some travellers prefer to do this and leave in on the bed for travelling. Ours stayed put on a very corrugated road (enough to kill the fridge).

Picked up a 17 inch LCD (with stereo) from KMart for $570. Is wall/arm mounted with remote etc. Swing arm will cost between $80 (single) to $120 (extendable). Then whatever antenna you think you will need. Certainly wouldn't be paying anyone $1700 for an LCD for a van.
As said above not sure about travelling with the LCD on the arm so intend removing it when travelling and then just refitting it when stopped for the night.
Will pay you to shop around.

Hi DAve

I brought my folks a 38cm widescreen LCD from Coles when they were on special for $299. My dad made up a swing mount for it. They said it has been excellent. We used it at their house before they mounted it and the picture was excellent.

cheers

I've got one of the Coles MTV 15" units which we use in the Kitchen everyday and take it in the van when we go away. I got it for $299 when they first came out. The picture quality isn't great, but for the price it is OK.

If I was going to buy another LCD monitor, I would look at the multifunction computer monitors, eg:
LG L173ST
I've seen this advertised for under $600.

In my opinion, the price charged by Caravan Shops etc is way too much.

G'dave Dave. My farther "who I now consider one of those grey nomads!" found one on ebay for about $700. It is a flat, 15" screen, with built in DVD player. He has it mounted in his caravan, and has had no problems. Go to ebay and do a search on "188 SUPER 15" TFT LCD", there are heaps there.

Cheers,

Greg

I wouldn't bother looking at expensive name LCD TV's. Little point. The internals are pretty much all sourced from the same manufacturers , just put together differently.

You will probably find a $400 LCD TV with DSE on it , is as good as many around.
